IFP withdraws motion of no confidence in Umzumbe
According to chief whip, Mlungisi Luthuli, it had been withdrawn because the correct channels had not been followed to allow for the motion to be raised.
At a media briefing at Esibanini Hall in Mtwalume on Monday last week, the IFP levelled various accusations against Umzumbe Local Municipality, including the mayor, Bongani Nyuswa.
The party’s chief whip, Mlungisi Luthuli, claimed that things are upside down in the municipality and that the entire budget has been spent, however, there is no proof as to what it has been used for.
“As the IFP we want to clear our names and assure people that when we joined the municipality’s leadership things were already a mess, and we have nothing to do with it.”
Furthermore, he added that it’s difficult to pay the employees because there is not a cent in the municipality’s account.
It is for these reasons the IFP sent a letter to the speaker, Jika Mthethwa, to raise a motion of no confidence.
However, a day after the briefing, information was received that the party had withdrawn the motion. In a letter signed by Luthuli and the secretary, Nobuhle Shozi, no reasons were given for the withdrawal.
According to Luthuli, it had been withdrawn because the correct channels had not been followed to allow for the motion to be raised.
Mthethwa confirmed the motion’s withdrawal.
The spokesperson for the municipality, Sabelo Ncwane, dismissed the accusations made by the IFP.
“Our municipality works on a system of an executive committee, therefore the decisions are made by the collective, not the mayor alone.”
Ncwane said that these accusations have no facts and they take them to be just rumours.
