Family portrait showcases artist’s skills
Margate Art Museum curator Siya Sotsu said Qiniso Mthuli was a mentee at the South Coast Art Business Incubator NPC in Margate.
Visual artist Qiniso Mthuli was recently recognised for his talent after drawing a family portrait of local business maestro, Siyabonga Msomi of Cool Sounds Trading.
Msomi was behind the well-known Ugu Jazz Festival, and he now stages the Off Ramp Experience.
Margate Art Museum curator Siya Sotsu said the family portrait showcased Mthuli’s artistic abilities.
Mthuli said the art piece highlighted how his work drew inspiration from influential figures in the community.
He said Msomi’s mentorship motivated him to take art seriously and approach it as a viable business.
“The portrait, created to celebrate love and art, is a beautiful testament to the power of creativity in strengthening personal and professional relationships,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sotsu said Mthuli’s appreciation for the opportunity to work on such a meaningful piece reflected passion and dedication to his craft.
Sotsu said Mthuli was a mentee at the South Coast Art Business Incubator NPC in Margate.
“Mthuli is certainly one to keep an eye on. The incubator provides invaluable support to emerging artists, helping them develop their skills and turn their artistic passions into sustainable businesses. His journey is a prime example of how targeted mentorship and community support can foster talent and innovation. We must rally together and support this budding artist, enabling him to remain actively engaged in his creative endeavours. Your encouragement can significantly impact Mthuli’s journey, allowing him to explore new opportunities and to expand his artistic repertoire,” said Sotsu.
He added that with collective encouragement and support, there was no doubt that Mthuli could achieve great things and continue to inspire others along the way.
“Let us stand behind him as he embarks on this exciting artistic journey,” he said
