Young United Netball vows to bring cup home

Young United Netball Team (YUNT) has promised to conquer the first edition of the Building Foundation Games, with the finals set to take place on the weekend of June 14.
It is billed to take place at Nkanini Indoor Sports Centre in Mtwalume.
The formation used for these games is similar to that of the Mayoral Cup, which starts at ward level, moving up to cluster level, and ending at municipal level.
YUNT from Mehlomnyama (Ward 1) recently played against 7 Touches from Ward 3, in a tense match which required a high level of tactics, bravery and commitment.
The game itself was balanced with the final score 11-10 in favour of YUNT. There were no teams from Wards 2 and 4 to conclude the composition of Cluster D.
YUNT’s coach, Samkelisiwe ‘Muke’ Doyisa, said they knew the game would be a tough one, considering the teams have met in a Mayoral Cup previously, where YUNT was victorious.
“We knew it would be difficult to play against them as they have a number of good players. They were quick and we had to slow down their pace, play our game according to passing and spacing. They won the first and second quarters,” said Doyisa.
The game was played over four quarters of 10 minutes each. Doyisa said they believed they were on a winning streak at quarter three, which they did not win. They won the last quarter which gave them a one goal advantage.
“We had a slight advantage as we had previously played against them in the Mayoral Cup. I was amazed when we won. We are in the finals and will return home as the champions. From now until the day of the final, we are going to train hard,” she said.
In the men’s soccer finals, Deyi Citizens defeated FC Cocomelons 2-1.
