Music enthusiasts jam to good sounds
The idea of the jam session came after the organisers identified a gap and a lack of platforms for both emerging and established local artists to showcase their talents.
It was a night of good music, food, and company at the South Coast Jam Session held in Margate last Friday.
The evening saw performances from local musicians Kagiso Miya, Tender Mavundla, DJ Slwane, Max and Charity.
Phumla Nxumalo said the idea of the jam session came about after a gap and lack of platforms were identified for both emerging and established local artists to showcase their talents.
She said aside from a few big annual events that happen on the South Coast, there was nothing else in between, to keep local artists busy and hopeful.
“Most of our local artists do not even have the opportunity to participate in those few local annual events. If you go to big cities, it is normal to have spaces and restaurants that offer such platforms for artists to jam. But not on the South Coast. So, we intend to change the narrative by creating such spaces,” she said.
Nxumalo added that the jam sessions would be ongoing, saying that any artist can sign up.
She said the platform was also great for building an audience and following, while giving others a chance to work on their stage presence.
