Russell capitalises on McLaren collision in Canada
Round 10 of 24 is done and dusted.
Despite at least two charges by Max Verstappen (Red Bull) to put pressure on George Russell (Mercedes) the Englishman kept his cool to win the Canadian Grand Prix by a mere quarter of a second at the flag.
Russell’s teammate Kimi Antonelli did a great job to bring the second three-pointed star home on the podium, in third place.
It was a bit of a topsy-turvy race with the intervention of the safety car, when the two McLaren teammates, who were challenging for third place, came together in an accident, with Lando Norris driving into the back of championship leader Oscar Piastri.
Norris immediately apologised for the accident, which he said was completely his own fault, but he was out of the race.
Piastri ended up in fourth position with the two Ferraris chasing him to the flag, Charles Leclerc only three seconds behind and Lewis Hamilton another seven seconds back in sixth place.
Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) performed well and deserved seventh position.
Nico Hulkenberg, in eighth place after another good drive, was the only other car to finish on the same lap as the winner.
Esteban Ocon (Haas) and Carlos Sainz (Williams) in ninth and 10th positions, brought up the remaining points scoring positions.
Across the ocean, at the Le Mans 24 hour race, we saw Ferrari (Robert Kubica and partners) followed by another Ferrari in third, with Porsche in second and fourth places, while Cadillac were fifth and Toyota sixth.
