Satellite police station soon for Ward 24

Resources are being awaited from the provincial office.

Ward 24 in Bhomela location will soon have a satellite police station located at the Multi-Purpose Community Centre in Nyandezulu.

Residents were informed after Paddock Saps called a public meeting at the Nyandezulu Centre for the Disabled last Friday.

Sergeant Gift Cele, who is in charge of crime reports at the Paddock police station, said resources from province are being awaited.

“We are waiting for vans and members who will be working there. A space has been allocated and it will be accessible to everyone in the location.”

Cele reported that there are many housebreaking incidents in Bhomela and Nyandezulu, followed by assault cases. He said that these are caused by the excessive use of alcohol because taverns and bottle stores operate after hours.

He added that local foreign owned shops are also a target for criminals.

“We plead with the community not to keep quite if they see a criminal stealing at their neighbour’s house, report it because tomorrow they will come for you.”

Cele said that whoonga addicts are the ones who are breaking in, so that they can steal items to sell.

He also advised people not to leave their houses unoccupied, or at least tell a neighbour, so that they can keep an eye.

Sergeant Gift Cele of Paddock police station addresses the meeting.
