Collision in Margate claims child's life
The two-year-old child suffered fatal injuries and tragically succumbed to her injuries before medical help arrived on scene.
A devastating pedestrian collision has claimed the life of a two-year-old girl and left her father seriously injured.
This happened at the intersection of Wartski Drive and the R620 in Margate last night (July 29).
Craig Botha, the spokesman for KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said a medical team was dispatched to the scene at around 17:30.
He said reports indicated that a bakkie had struck the two pedestrians who were walking towards the taxi rank.
“Upon arrival, advanced paramedics navigated through a crowd to reach the victims. On-scene medical assessments revealed that the father had sustained severe injuries, including fractures. His two-year-old daughter suffered fatal injuries and tragically succumbed to her injuries before medical help arrived. The medical team stabilised the father at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for specialised, urgent care,” said Botha.
The scene was attended by local traffic authorities and Saps. A formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash will be investigated by Margate Saps.
“Early reports from the scene indicate that the driver of the bakkie felt an impact, believing a tree branch had hit the vehicle, and only discovering the victims after coming to a stop,” said Botha.
