Port Shepstone Rotary Club hosts its 60th annual Youth Leadership Course

The course aims to help young people recognise their leadership potential and develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone proudly hosted its 60th annual Youth Leadership Course recently – a week long programme that continues to inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow.

Held at Port Shepstone High, the milestone course brought together 67 Grade 11 learners from schools across KwaZulu-Natal and eight dedicated mentors.

The 2025 Rotary Youth Leadership Course brought together 67 learners and mentors for a week of empowerment and teamwork.

Over six days, participants took part in a dynamic schedule that included motivational talks, team-building sessions, sports, creative activities, and even a beach clean up and community outreach project.

The course aims to help young people recognise their leadership potential and develop confidence, teamwork, and communication skills that they can carry into their schools and communities.

Team spirit and leadership in action.

Youth Director and Club PRO, Shamin Maharaj, said the course’s longevity is a reflection of its continued relevance and impact.

“The course gets bigger and better every year. We strive to keep topics and activities current and engaging. It’s not about replicating the school environment, but rather giving these young leaders the opportunity to explore their individuality, learn from each other, and grow in ways beyond imagination,” she said.

Young leaders of tomorrow – inspired, motivated, and ready to make a difference in their communities.

Maharaj also paid tribute to past Rotary leaders and long-standing course convenor Dell Pendock for preserving the programme’s legacy.

The club thanked all sponsors, speakers, and mentors who helped make the 2025 course another resounding success.
