Festive spirit reigns at lunch for underprivileged in Gamalakhe

The gathering was more than just a meal, it was a moment of dignity, care and recognition.

The municipal manager of Ugu District Municipality, Vela Mazibuko, in his personal capacity, joined hands with the Mpumelelelo Mbono Foundation to host a Christmas lunch for needy residents of Gamalakhe Township.

Mazibuko said he was moved by the daily struggles faced by vulnerable community members from Gamalakhe Township and helped by joining hands with the foundation to host a lunch for those in need.

“For many beneficiaries, the gathering was more than just a meal. It was a moment of dignity, care and recognition. Smiles replaced worry as residents were welcomed with warm plates of festive food, wrapped in donated blankets, and gifted cosmetics, simple items that carried deep meaning during a difficult time.”

The foundation’s chairperson, Mpume Mbono, said the gathering was all about laughter, conversation and gratitude. “The beneficiaries gratitude filled the air as the initiative reminded the community that they had not been forgotten. In a season often defined by togetherness, this act of generosity restored hope and reaffirmed the power of compassion to uplift their lives.”

Mbono added that through this gesture, the true spirit of Christmas of love, giving and humanity was brought to life, proving that sometimes the greatest gifts come not in boxes, but in moments of shared kindness.
