Genesis gym is about community

It's more than just a gym, it's an outreach node as well.

The Genesis Community Gym, based at Norwegian Settlers Church, is providing South Coasters of all ages the opportunity to commit to healthier daily routines through structured training sessions.

Consistency, discipline and mutual support is prioritised over quick results.

The gym forms part of a broader community initiative that seeks to provide safe and purposeful spaces where individuals can grow physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.

Gym manager Wanda Mvundla said that during the week, members train together in a supervised environment that focuses on safe movement, gradual progress and accountability.

“Sessions include strength training and functional exercises designed to support long-term health rather than short-term performance,” he said.

He said that what stands out during training is the strong sense of community.

“Members actively support one another, whether through spotting during lifts, offering encouragement or simply sharing the same training space. This shared effort has helped create an environment where individuals feel motivated to return consistently, regardless of age or fitness level.”

According to the coaching team, the aim is not only physical improvement, but also the development of positive habits that carry over into everyday life.

“We see people from different backgrounds and age groups training together,” said Wanda. “The focus is on showing up consistently, learning discipline and supporting one another. Over time, that structure starts to impact other areas of life as well.”
