Back-to-school outreach programme donates to Umzumbe school
Among the items handed over were shoes, digital projector, laptop, photocopying paper and chalk.
A back-to-school outreach programme to support disadvantaged learners was held in partnership with the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) Ugu region and the deputy minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya, at Mvuthuluka Secondary in Ward 13 in Umzumbe on Monday last week.
“At the handover, the school received 30 pairs of shoes for needy learners, a digital projector, a laptop, photocopying paper and chalk,” said Sanco regional secretary, Mthunzi Mqadi.
The event was attended by the deputy mayor of Ugu District Municipality Dixie Nciki, the speaker of Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality Phumlani Gumbi, South African Democratic Teachers’ Union regional leadership and the SGB of Mvuthuluka Secondary.
Mqadi added that the interventions of Sanco to improve learning conditions of learners were appreciated.
“A message which promotes a culture of learning and teaching, and quality results was well received by both parents and learners. The deputy minister made a sponsorship commitment to the learner able to obtain four distinctions and more in the 2026 National Senior Certificate examinations. Parents were reminded of the role they need to play as well as the role that government will continue to play to ensure a well educated, self sustaining citizenry which will contribute positively to the overall growth of the country.”
