Computer lessons open new opportunities

Genesis Murchison Community Centre has introduced basic computer lessons for local high school learners after identifying a growing challenge among students who struggle to type school assignments and conduct research online.
The programme, hosted at a nearby high school, currently supports 30 learners and focuses on foundational computer skills, including typing, internet research and basic digital literacy. These skills are increasingly essential for completing schoolwork and preparing for further education and employment.

According to programme facilitators, many learners had limited exposure to computers prior to the initiative. Since the lessons began, participants have grown in confidence and are showing greater willingness to practise and improve their skills.
“Learning how to use a computer has helped us feel more confident about completing our school projects,” said one learner.

Community organisers say the initiative aims to equip young people with practical tools that can improve academic performance and open future opportunities. By strengthening digital literacy, the programme seeks to support learners in navigating an increasingly technology-driven world.
Genesis Murchison Community Centre continues to work alongside local schools to provide support initiatives that promote education, confidence and long-term development among young people in the community.
