Zambian and Nigerian stars to perform at gospel festival in Gamalakhe

Gospel heavyweights such as Jumbo, Kholeka, Betusile, Sgwili and Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors will also take to stage.

It’s official, gospel superstars – Zambian Navy Samboko and Nigerian Glory Oluwasona – will perform at this year’s Uvukile Gospel Festival.

The event will be staged at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe, Port Shepstone on Sunday, April 5.

These international stars, according to the event organisers, confirmed their attendance last week.

The duo is joining other gospel heavyweights such as Jumbo, Kholeka, Betusile, Sgwili, Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, and others.

Event organiser, Joshua ‘Pastor Mjosty’ Mbhele, said it’s history in the making. “We are building everlasting relationships with gospel stars from other countries. Previously, we had artists from eSwatini and Lesotho. It’s the first time we have artists from Zambia and Nigeria. This is good for gospel music as we will also send our artists to their countries should an opportunity arise.”

Nigerian superstar Glory Oluwasona will perform at this year's Uvukile Gospel Festival.

The festival which is in its 13th year has been hit hard in the last few years, with major sponsors pulling out. As a result, the event was being held in the facility hall, instead of the playing field.

However, at a launch recently, the organisers vowed that this year will be different, with the event returning to the playing field, and the artists have promised to up their game.

Mbhele said things are changing and the event will be a huge success.

“This event has gone beyond a regional one, it has become international. We have artists from beyond our borders. It proves that people love festival. I can assure you the venue will be packed as we are expecting between 10 000 to 15 000 patrons,” he said.
