The KwaMadlala community has water in their taps as of April 20, marking a major step forward in a project that has overcome numerous historical challenges and infrastructure barriers.
Community members who witnessed the initial water flow could not hold back their excitement, as this development signals tangible progress toward a reliable and consistent water supply.
According to Ugu District Municipality, it has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to restore and improve water supply across rural communities.
The KwaMadlala Water Project is set to supply thousands of households within the area, bringing long-awaited relief to communities that have endured prolonged water shortages.
Ugu added that the successful testing of the system confirms that the infrastructure is now functional and progressing towards full operational capacity. Municipal teams have commenced with controlled testing and commissioning processes to ensure system stability, pressure management, and sustainable supply.
Water restoration will be implemented gradually across affected communities to allow for proper charging of the network and to prevent system strain.
This project forms part of broader commitment to strengthening water infrastructure, improving service delivery, and ensuring equitable access to basic services for all residents.
