Outreach in Umzinto creates awareness on constitution

Community members also received information on a wide range of public services, developmental programmes, and support initiatives.

An outreach programme aimed to educate residents about the historical importance of Freedom Month (April) while also creating awareness about the constitution’s 30-year milestone, saw representatives from various government departments visit a taxi rank in Umzinto on April 10.

Representatives from the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and participating government departments engaged directly with the community on the significance of South Africa’s democratic journey and the importance of the constitution in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all citizens.

In addition to constitutional awareness, government departments used the platform to provide community members with information on a wide range of public services, developmental programmes, and support initiatives available to residents.

“These engagements are intended to ensure that citizens are informed about the opportunities and services offered by government, while also improving access to essential resources that contribute to community development and socio-economic empowerment,” said GCIS regional communications spokesperson, Khanyiso Seyisi.

“The initiative forms part of government’s broader commitment to bringing services closer to the people and fostering a well-informed citizenry that actively participates in democratic processes and development programmes,” he added.
