Karateka from Suid Natal Martial Arts Academy recently attended their International Shorei Martial Arts Academy (Ismaa) style gasshuku at TO Strand in Port Edward.
The gasshuku, which attracted Ismaa goju-ryu karateka from all over South Africa, was a fantastic opportunity for the karateka of this style to train together.
The training included a fun beach session and intense drills, alike.
Karateka from the local academy who attended the gasshuku also graded for their senior black belts at an intense grading session facilitated by top karateka in the style.
Three karateka passed their senior 1st dan black belt grading, namely Blake Hogan, Nimai Duki and Wickus van der Wath.
The academy’s Shihan Coenie Vrey congratulated them on their achievements.
“Many years of hard work and dedication have certainly paid off for these karateka,” he said.
