KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

Port Shepstone pair wins mixed

>>>>>

OWING to an electrical problem, the KBA mixed pairs finals had to be moved to Hibberdene Bowling Club, but this didn’t have any effect on the excellent quality of the greens that were experienced by the finalists.

Eddie Fann and Barbara Gradwell from Port Shepstone played Mike and Maureen Lancaster from AMBC in the one semi-final and Eddie and Barbara came away fairly comfortable winners, 21 – 8.

The other semi-final was exceptionally close and all on the bank tensely watched Yvonne van Mentz and Chris Abram from Margate Country Club peel with last year winners Barry Delvin and Winnie Hess. An extra end had to be played for the final winner of this semi and Yvonne and Chris just picked up the winning shot to advance into the final.

The final between Fann/Gradwell and van Mentz/Abram was equally as tense, with both teams again peeling on the 19th end, but Eddie and Barbara just pulled through, with excellent bowls being played by both pairs, to win by 2 shots. This was a very creditable exhibition by the MCC combo to get silver, coming so close against the more ‘fancied’ Port Shepstone pair. Barry Delvin and Winnie Hess came 3rd in the competition with a good win against the Lancasters.

THE club played host to the first round of the KBA mixed pairs last Saturday. Twelve teams played three games of 15 ends each. The spectators were witness to very good bowls. Of the three sections played, only two teams gained full points – both from PSCC. The food was excellent as usual as well as the service in the bar. Our new green keeper prepared the green very well under the guidance of Chris Snyman. Thanks to one and all.
