SUNNY weather made for a great day of fishing at the ‘Pont’s Big Catch’ compo in Port Edward last Saturday.
The Pont was abuzz with many children and their parents, and of course, many talented anglers, fishing either on boats or along the bank.
“The event was a great success, attracting over 120 anglers. It exceeded our expectations and it was an awesome event for the whole family,” said Stacey Upfold from Ultimate Events.
“I was thrilled at the turnout and support at both the briefing on Friday evening, as well as the fishing compo on Saturday,” she added.
The overall winner was Glyn Campbell from Port Edward, who caught a 2.7kg rock salmon from a boat. He won R1500 cash plus the handcrafted trophy from Africarve.
Dewaldt van Rensburg from Munster, was the winning ‘bank angler’, who won R1500 cash for catching a moff grunter, which weighed 2kg.
Andre Potgieter won R750 cash for catching a 1kg river gurnard.
Owen Paton won R250 cash for catching a 390g mullet.
The top woman for ‘bank fishing’ was Nicolene Harmse who won a weekend away at the Pont for catching a 280g salmon.
The boat winners were K Logie, who won R750 cash prize for catching the second biggest fish, a lesser sand shark weighing in at 1.6kg.
Adrian de la Hunt won R250 for a 1.07kg rock salmon.
The prize for most species caught on the day went to Darren Poole, who won a R500 Tackle Box Shelly Beach voucher for catching a lesser sandshark, black spotted kingfish, spotted grunter and a moff grunter.
The heaviest bag, which totalled 2.32kg, was won by Adrian de la Hunt. Top junior angler for heaviest fish was Jason Marks (7) who caught a 620g fish.
