Athletic Magdalena smashes SA record
With 14 South African track records to her name, in age categories from 35-year-old and up, Scottburgh’s Magdalena Tomlinson isn’t planning on stopping there.
AT the recent KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Association Provincial Championships for Seniors and Masters Athletes at Kings Park Stadium, Durban Magdalena Tomlinson claimed another South African record, this time for the 800 metre race in the over 70 years age category, which had been standing for 17 years and, to top it all off in front of her family, she also won the 200 metre race.
With all these achievements under her belt one could understand if she chose to kick back and relax a little. However, this determined woman now has two more records in her sight.
In her current age category she holds three records, the 800 metre, short hurdles and long hurdles. The goal going forward is to break the 200 and 400 metre records.
Magdalena will train throughout the year, and hopes that she will be ready to have a crack at the records at the Free State Championships in Bloemfontein in November.
