WINNERS of last week’s Shelley Beach SuperSpar mixed trips, with a score of 4 + 11, were Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Dawn O’Healy. Runners-up on 4 + 10 were Dave and Rae Barber, and Jo Olivier.
The session prize went to Dora Vosloo, Helen Proctor, and Martiens Olivier with a score of 2 + 11. The 50/50 draw was won by Brenda Smith. The next mixed trips at Margate Country Club will be on April 22.
Starting today, April 3, 12 invited skips from different clubs will go head to head for three days in the Halfway Toyota Margate Country Club Challenge. This challenge involves golfers, bridge players and bowlers alike and has always proven to be a very much-anticipated event in the past.
Other sponsors of the fantastic cash prizes for bowlers are Warwick Wealth Management and Alan Uzzell Upholsterers. On duty from April 7 are Ann Church, Ann Cheetham, Ray Cheetham and Peter Dodd.

RECENTLY, the finals of the Perfect Delivery mens’ and womens’ fours took place at Umtentweni. The winning men’s team from Margate Bowling Club was Chris Forward, Ken Tonge, Mike Jefferies and Peet Trollip. Runner-up was The Bell, skipped by Louw Vermeulen. In third place was Malcolm Baker’s team from Port Shepstone and fourth place went to Ian Kalil’s team from Margate.
In the women’s fours, the women from Port Shepstone Country Club were victorious – Jenny Rawlins, Gilly Thiele, Leslie Lancaster and Sheenagh Dempster. Runners-up were Esta Wenzel’s team (Margate), followed in third place by Jessica Henderson’s team (also from Margate) and in fourth place, Daphne Sapsford’s team from The Bell. The prizes were awarded to the winners by Doug Joubert from Perfect Delivery.

AT THE March Tiago’s mixed pairs, overall winners were Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren, runners-up were Gawie Bosman and Trish Steyn and session went to Cliff Moakes and Pat Ruperto.
Barry and Norma Payn hosted a most successful afternoon of bowls. Seven rinks were filled with enthusiastic bowlers and even the rain held off until after the prize-giving. For photos, see Umtamvuna news.

TWO interesting competitions were held last week. Winners of the CrissCross Security open trips last Thursday were Heather Roberts, Doug Campbell and Elliot Nqoko. Runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Greg Allen and Dice Graaff. The first session winners were Malcolm Milne, Peter Mundy and Trebla Lansdell, with the second session awarded to Anne Bailey, Olwen Gibbs and Trixi Smith. Steve Evans won the 50/50.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ken Tonge and Chris Forward, winners of the inaugural Pro10 two bowls pairs – a great achievement.
The winners of the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 played last Friday were Dave Barber and Brian Smallberger on 4+15, runners-up were Trevor Heywood and Johnny Louch on 4+10. First session winners were Riemer and Sophia van der Wal, and second session went to Tony Simmonds and Bill Reed. Winners of the Uvongo Spar vouchers were Oscar Pienaar, Jimmy Johnson and Henry Jacobs.
Local teams are reminded to get their entries in for the annual Margate Tournament, to be held from May 5 to 9. Entry forms are available from the club office.
The SA U25 tournament will be held at MBC from April 1 – 4, with a braai for players and visitors on the Wednesday evening. Local players are invited to come and support these youngsters from all over the country and enjoy their skills and enthusiasm.

The Pig’s Ear Development Day is scheduled for the morning of Sunday, April 6. These days have proved to be extremely successful and loads of fun so bring along friends and family to enjoy another morning of fun and laughter, as well as the opportunity to try out your skills on the bowling green.
The monthly bingo evening will be on Monday, April 7. Bring your friends, family and neighbours along for an evening of fun and camaraderie, and enjoy a delicious supper at the same time.
There will also be an ‘Easter Parade’ on the morning of Sunday, April 20, so set this day aside. There will be prizes for the best Easter bonnets and hats, with a bring and braai afterwards. Members, as well as visitors, are welcome to join in the fun.
Sunday morning bowls are played in mufti and everyone is welcome to come and join in a morning of fun, bowlers and non-bowlers alike.

RESULTS from the drawn trips played last Friday afternoon were as follows: winners were Eddie Milne, Bernard Carpenter and Ronel Bourman, runners up were Annetjie Human, Cheryl Knight and Estelle Quinn and the session prize was won by Danie Human, Miriam Seager and Judy Hoyer. Hibberdene Bowling Club was one of the chosen few to host the SpecSavers Pro 10 two-bowl trips over the weekend. Ten teams played on Saturday and Sunday and each game lasted approximately one hour.
Eventually Chris Foward and Ken Tonge won their section, beating Mike and Sandy Davis by one point in the last game of the day. Bez Bezuidenhout and Arthur Seager represented Hibberdene and played at Riverside (formerly Uvongo) Bowling Club and made a lot of friends. Again players complimented the catering staff, so thank you to all the women.

The Sheppie Business Challenge was once again a great success and the third round took place on March 28. The winners of the third round was PHG Stoppel and Co. – Malcolm Baker (skip), Peter Stoppel and Annie Stoppel, with the overall leader of this competition so far being the company Protective Clothing.
