DMCC Colts knock out the Old Boys
The Colts came in to bat with a solid game plan and smashed the runs in 12 overs.
LAST weekend, the Douglas Mitchell Cricket Club’s ‘Old Boys’ hosted the Port Shepstone Country Club at the Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds in the second semi-final of the knockouts. PSCC won the toss and elected to bat, wickets fell at regular intervals ending up on 150 all out. Anton Potgieter, the pick of the bowlers, took four wickets for 12 runs. The DMCC opening batsmen Ashley Lombard and Wikus Pretorius wasted no time and chased the total down in 18 overs, scoring 70 not out and 59 runs not out respectively, to advance to the final.
This past Sunday, the final of the knockouts was played between the DMCC Old Boys and the DMCC Colts. The Old Boys batted first and struggled to get going, with the Colts not giving any chances, but taking all their catches and run-out opportunities. The wickets were evenly shared between the bowlers, who restricted Old Boys to 94 all out. The Colts came in to bat with a solid game plan and smashed the runs in 12 overs. Dirkie Botes top scored with 38 runs and the Colts won by 7 wickets, taking the knockout cup 2014.
This brings a close to the 2013/2014 cricket season. DMCC Old Boys won the 50-overs league and 20/20 league earlier in the season, and DMCC Colts won the knockout cup. See everyone in September for the new season.
