Local MTB event raises funds for a worthy cause

Bundubashers Mountain Biking Club recently handed over R10 000 to the Burry Stander Foundation.

THE Bundubashers Mountain Biking Club recently handed over R10 000 to the Burry Stander Foundation. The funds were raised through the annual mountain biking event held at the Port Edward Holiday Resort in 2013, now named the ‘Burry Stander Sardine MTB Classic’.

Mandie Stander, Burry’s mother and representative of the foundation received the donation at the newly opened Burry Stander Bike Park in Umtentweni. The Burry Stander Foundation was established soon after the mountain biking legend lost his life after being hit by a taxi on his training ride on January 3 last year.

The foundation’s mission is to change legislation, assist other worthy initiatives, raise awareness and bring lasting change as to how pedestrians, cyclists and motor bikers are affected on the roads. The Burry Stander Sardine MTB Classic will take place once again this year on July 5 and 6. Watch the press for details.
