Marius and Johan rise to the challenge

BRIAN Jolliffe came closest to winning the Toyota Corolla on offer for a hole-in-one on the final day of the Halfway Toyota Margate Challenge last weekend.
His shot on the 16th hole came to rest just past the hole. Despite this shot, he did not feature on the winners’ podium.
That honour went to Marius Visser and Johan Erasmus, who produced the best golf over the weekend.

Last Tuesday’s women’s alliance was won by Corinne Greensmith, Shannon Gottlieb and Lesley Erasmus on 90 points, followed by Kay Young, Beryl Williamson and Sandi Johnston (ghost) on 85 points.
The Wednesday Wobblers’ alliance was won by Louie Kuhn, Tony Peace and Andre du Plessis on 90 points.
There was a tie for second on 88 points, shared by Keith Killington, Dave Morrison and John Gibson as well as Hans Beilhartz, Alan Davies and Ernie Kuttner.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Dieter Jucker, Rob Brien and Fred Boshoff.

Champs at it again

THERE were no surprises in the matchplay champs played at Southbroom Golf Club last weekend.
Strokeplay champions Gavin Sole and Heather Anderson both did the double. Gavin beat Phil le Roux in the final, while Heather beat Geraldine Treherne.
Gavin was in sublime form, about five under par when the game ended. In the semi-final against David Rush he got on a roll, making seven birdies in a row, from the 5th to the 11th.
The winners in the women’s section last Wednesday were Augustine D’Ewes, Lorraine Cook, Sandy Fitzgerald and Michelle Davies on 97 points.
In second place on 89 points were Di Morris, Barbara Cannon, Sophie Peridon and Janice Lang.
The men’s comp was won by Malcolm Greenland, Art Germs, Roel Germs and George Haswell on 95 points.
In a tie for second place on 92 points were Stuart Janvier, John Lison, Karl Mosburger and Urs Diethelm, as well as Wilfred Bessell, Jean-Claude Peridon, Richard Bridgeford and Graham Volck.
The Saturday comp saw Mary Carolan, Karin Asbock, Pam Quarmby and Sophie Peridon on 95 points, followed by Augustine D’Ewes, Margaret Sherratt, Jeanne Powell and Jean Purtell on 92 points.
The men’s comp was won on 92 points by Stan Date, Heiner Heidrich, John Scott and Andre Romerstein, followed by Dudley Simmonds, George Haynes, Dick Holtshausen and Graham Taylor on 91 points, with Stuart Janvier, John Lison, Karl Mosburger and Urs Diethelm next on 90 points.

Gavin is no mug
>
THE Wednesday multiplication at Port Shepstone Country Club last week was won by Paul van Tichelen and Dave Milne on 75 points. In second place were Jacky van Heerden and Roy Matkovich on 72 points.
Gavin van Wyk was the mug of mugs winner last Saturday on nett 71. He carded 79 off his eight handicap. Horst Wortmann was next on nett 72.
Byron Henning counted out Gordon Dickson to win the B division on nett 70, while Craig Lindsay wrapped up things in the C division on nett 73. Dick Mol was the runner-up on nett 74.
Charles Mostert was the mug winner for the day on nett 69.
Sue van den Berg won the individual Stableford on 40 points, two clear of Juliana Ziervogel.
The monthly business day will be played this Friday, followed by the club championships.

Carr drives to victory

FRANK Carr won the Port Edward Country Club championships recently, with a solid score of 151. Eight off the pace was Marc Smith.
The B division saw Jan-Hendirk Roos take the honours on 166, from Martyn Nagtegaal. Pat McCormick won the C division on 84 points, edging out Al dos Santos by one point.
In the women’s section, Helga Wepener finished on 70 points, with Pat Stone next on 66 points.

Paul wins

BIRTHDAY boy Paul Naidoo claimed first place in Pro-Vision’s monthly mug at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
He carded 41 points to win by two from Risheen Goberdan. Ronnie Naidoo was third on 37 points.
Dr Rob Calder, who sponsored the tournament, congratulated the champ for the day.
