THE Fidelity Security South Coast Warriors ran rampant at King’s Park 4 against the Jaguars last Saturday, demolishing them 53-19 in a try-fest of some note.
Tries were scored by Juan van den Berg, Andries Fourie, Kyle van Deventer (2), Dawie Durrheim, Marcell Sass, Juandre Koekemoer, Tienie Viljoen and David van Zyl.
The man of the match was Van den Berg, leading from the front as always, while scrum half Chris Mitchell was the backline player of the match.
Kicking duties were shared by Dylan Kroon and Josh Fourie.
Coach Christo Henderson said he was expecting a much tighter game.
“I thought our boys would shock the Jaguars with our forwards. They like to play a loose, running game, but our pack forced them to commit more players at the rucks and mauls, which opened a lot of gaps for our backs and loose forwards,” said Henderson.
“Our set pieces, the line-outs and scrums, were potent. The support play was of a very high level,” he said.
So far this year the Warriors have committed to playing attacking, winning rugby. They’ve worked hard, from as early as the first week of January, and now that’s starting to pay off.
Their game plan has been well drilled, every player understands their role, and gives 100 percent.
The Warriors are currently in the first division, south section.
On a lighter note, replacement lock Andries Fourie stepped up to take a conversion kick – after the Warriors had hit the 50 point mark – and duly slotted it, much to the delight of his teammates.
It brought back a few memories of when front row forward Ollie le Roux used to occasionally kick for poles for the Sharks.
The second team lost 18-11.
The players have a well-deserved break this weekend, and will then be ready to take on Ballito Dolphins at home at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground on Saturday, April 26. The first team game kicks off at 3.30pm, preceded by the second team.
