MIKE Gamble (Southbroom), Val Smith (Munster), Bill Hutton (Village) and Riemer van der Wal (Margate) were lucky enough to win R50 each in the April 300 club draw. Joey Anderson (Munster) won R100 and Brian van Nikkelen-Kuyper (Scottburgh) won R200. The big money of R300 went to Danny McCarthy (Margate), R500 to Joe Ashworth (Banners Rest), whilst the biggest prize winner was John Besseling (Alexandra Memorial) with R1000. Enjoy!

WINNERS of the Venture Inn/Jaxx men’s trips were Louw Vermeulen, Keith Harcombe and Kevin Mullen. Runners-up were Brian Rawlins, John Nadauld and Kevin Lancaster and session prize went to Luke Pohl, Maureen Head and Johannie Theron.
The Fruit and Veg 2-4-2 was rained out and the next competition, the Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips is tomorrow (25th). Convenors are Dave Matthews and Mada Lindeque, and catering will be by Denise Nel and Margie Randall.
There will be social bowls on Monday, April 28 and the Toyota fun day will take place on Thursday, May 1st. Convenor is Sharolyn Dacey, who will welcome names of anybody interested in playing.
Remember, the winter starting times kick in from May 1st, tabs in by 1.15pm for play at 1.30pm.

MARGATE BOWLING CLUB
ENTRIES for the annual ‘Margate Week’ tournament close tomorrow (Friday). The Margate Week show ‘Magic Moments’ will be held on Friday, May 2, at 6.30 for 7pm. Members are free, but all others pay a R30 entrance fee and there will be savoury mince rolls on sale for R20.
For catering purposes, put names on the notice board at the club or phone Yvonne at 083 6021712. Members are requested to make donations to the ‘Margate Week’ hampers and assistance with soup-making is also required.
The next sponsored tournament is the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 this Friday afternoon (25th). Contact Ellen Cawker at 082 8019339 or Ian Hutton at 081 2166634, or enter names on the notice board entry forms. Visitors are welcome to enter teams.
The next quiz evening will be held on May 14th, and the next bingo evening on Monday, June 9th. Sunday morning bowls is played in mufti. Bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome.

WINNERS of the J Cee Sounds mixed pairs played on Easter Monday were Louw Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer on 4 + 11. Second on a count-out and also on 4 + 11 were Keith Harcombe and Michelle Vermaak, and Derick Celliers and Ruth Findlay were session winners on +15.
Unfortunately, because there was a clash with league fixtures, the Abingdon Road Spar women’s pairs had to be cancelled.
The next competition will be the Schooner’s Restaurant 3-2-1 next Saturday, 26th.

SOUTHBROOM BOWLING CLUB
WELL played to Brian Hughes, Alan Tyers and Ken Hills who won the Fish on the Pond open men’s trips last Tuesday. Runners-up were Ian Hutton, Tony Simmonds and Johnny Smith, first session winners were Barry Christie, Alan Ward and Hein Bester.
Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholtz and Kevin Todd won the second session and the 50/50 went to Brian Hughes. Well played to the two Southbroom league teams competing in the Saturday and Wednesday leagues.
The club is very proud of Duncan Biggar, Pedi Bam, Des Erasmus, Wynand Bezuidenhout, Lana du Plooy and Sean Larkins, who completed and passed the ‘Marker’s Course’.

THE winners of the combined Easter fun day/Something Nice drawn trips were Ray Visser and Johan and Doreen van der. Westhuizen on 3 + 8, who received chickens and eggs.
Second prize of Something Nice vouchers went to Dave Barber, Chrissie Chancellor and Jannie van der Nest on 3 + 7, and third prize went to Edna Beckett, Brenda Smith, Colin Eltis and Malcolm Taylor on 3 +7. Fourth prize went to Chummy Smith, Hazel Williams and Jenny Bruce on 3 + 1.
The sportmans’ prize went to Brian Muir, Brian Cross and Justus Bezuidenhout. Best Easter bonnets went to Vi Eltis and Edna Beckett, and best outfit was awarded to Dave Barber. The sexiest bunny went to Chrissie Chancellor, the lucky draw was won by Ann Gibson and the accumulator prize was won by Malcolm Taylor.

HIBBERDENE
THERE had to be a count-out at the occasionally played 2-4-2 mixed nominated game last Friday afternoon and eventually Bruce Hoyer and Cheryl Knight were the overall winners. Second place was won by Apie Putter and Hana Svoboda and session prize was won by Bernard Carpenter and Louise Shone.
The lucky draw was won by Judy and John Hoyer (talk about keeping the prizes in the family!) with the Hoyer family featuring very prominently! A big thank you to the club’s life member Mike Hoyer for the generous sponsorships.
The club was extremely honoured to have a distinguished guest last week, namely Maureen Vermaak, who brought her father to the bowling green. Hector Lawrence was once the senior men’s singles champion at Mooi River in his ’80s and is celebrating his 101st birthday this year.
The next competition is this Friday afternoon, namely the drawn trips sponsored by Chris Shone of Hartcourts Scott Bay Estates, and there are still a few vacancies for the Hibiscus Week, so contact Bez Bezuidenhout at 039 6993896 or 073 2008839.
