Robert aims for the double

THE first round of the Margate CC matchplay was played last Sunday.
Robert Mavundla, who won the recent strokeplay title, kept up his good form with a win over Ronald Mtshaka, on the first extra hole.
Douglas Sima beat Ivan Curlewis 5/4 and will meet Robert in the final. Douglas has won the title for the past three years.
The women’s comp last Tuesday was won by Shannon Gottlieb on 42 points, from Margaret Ford and Lyn Meek who both had 38 points.
The Wobblers’ comp was played on Thursday due to rain on Wednesday, and won by Dieter Jucker, Dave Morrison and Damion Buckley on 80 points.
In second spot were Hans Bielhartz, John Barker and Andy Buchan on 78 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to John Gibson, Rob McGill and Brian Jeffreys on 67 points.
Mike Lee carded 42 points to win the pro shop comp on Thursday, by one from Doug Johnston and Mike Geiger.
Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was John Ford, three rolls short of an ace.
Saturday’s comp was won by Hans Beilhartz and Dave Morrison on 48 points, by one from Wayne Minnaar and Graeme Massam, as well as Jim Finn and Alan Davies.Beryl Williamson, Anita Scheepers and Margaret Taylor claimed the honours in the women’s section.

Rain ‘Jacquet’ required

RAIN disturbed play at Southbroom Golf Club last Wednesday but Mike Jacquet had the best score of the finishers and so won the comp on nett 67. Gerald Fitzgerald won the Stableford on 37 points.
Michelle van der Hoek was the leading woman on nett 73, followed by Geraldine Treherne and Colleen Daly on nett 75.
The alliance last Saturday was won by Cliff Peterson, Chad Peterson, Eamon O’Neil and Jack O’Neil on 99 points, followed by two pairs on 94 points, namely Ossie Osborne, Tony Holness, Coert Britz and Malcolm Moorley, as well as Phil Verwey, Peter Brandsma, Colin Steyn and George Haswell.
The women’s comp saw Joy Crtutchfield, Jeanette Peyios, Sandy Luus and Lan Yeadon win on 89 points, from Augustine D’Ewes, Julie Gerber, Barbara Cannon and Heleen Hissey, who had 88 points.
In third were Ruth Mosburger, Sandi Fitzgerald, Rene Matthew and Janice Lang on 86 points.

September 28 at Margate: Margate vs Southbroom, Port Shepstone vs Umdoni Park, Selborne (bye).
October 12 at Umdoni Park: Umdoni Park vs Margate, Selborne v Port Shepstone, Southbroom (bye).
November 30 at Port Shepstone: Port Shepstone vs Southbroom, Selborne vs Umdoni Park, Margate (bye).
Meanwhile, the premier league team to play Mount Edgecombe Country Club at Margate this Sunday is Gavin Sole, Jan McDermott, Leorin Pillay, Nishalin Nelson, Altaaf Bux, Elvis Khawula, David Rush and Douglas Sima.
The central team, to play Kloof ‘B’ at Windsor Park, is Ronald Mtshaka, Patrick Mavundla, Robert Mavundla, Simon Lee, Naude Barkhuizen, Jarrod van Wyk, Gary Purtell and Jason Leech. Grant Richards is the reserve.

Dave wins with ease

DAVE Mee won the individual Stableford at Port Shepstone Country Club last Wednesday on 38 points. In second place was Kevin Loring on 34 points. Saturday’s comp was won by Roly Shaw and Mike Webster on 48 points, followed by Daleen Steyn and Basil King, as well as Trevor Green and Christo Jansen van Vuuren, on 46 points. In fourth place were Craig Lindsay and Rob Calder on 45 points.
