Swimmers Shebjorn and Danielle are ambassadors for SA
Margate Swimming Club looks forward to seeing what the two stars bring to the pool in the new season.
TEAMMATES Shebjorn Axelson and Danielle Smith represented KZN at the prestigious SA Nationals hosted in Durban recently, which served as the platform for the Commonwealth Games trials, showcasing the very best of South African swimming.
Shebjorn showed great form throughout the tournament. Day one saw her clock her fastest time of the season in the 50m butterfly event, securing her place in the semi-finals that evening, and finishing up fourth in KZN and 15th overall in South Africa! She went on to improve her times in all of her events, most notably breaking the 28 seconds in the 50m freestyle and moving up 33 places in the rankings!
After a successful level 3 Nationals in Cape Town where she secured a senior national qualifying time in the 200m backstroke final, Danielle looked in fantastic shape at the SA Nationals. Day one saw her produce a personal best time in the 200m freestyle event, following that up with a solid swim in the 200m individual medley. Day two spelt disappointment for this talented young swimmer, when she was forced to withdraw from her main event, the 200m backstroke, due to illness and struggled to recover enough to find her form in the 400m individual medley event later that week.
Well done to both girls on their outstanding achievements this season. Margate Swimming Club is very proud of these two ambassadors and looks forward to seeing what they bring to the pool in the new season, ‘What comes easy, won’t last, and what lasts, won’t come easy!’
