MSC’s Joshua clocks season’s fastest time
They brought home 13 medals and were placed 13th overall out of 44 competing clubs.
LEVEL 2 Championships in Sasolburg saw Margate Swimming Club teammates, Charles Thompson, Arno Smith, Liam Botha, Clarisa le Hanie, Josh Parry, April Niemack and Jeandre Joubert, collectively bring home 13 medals and gain 13th place overall out of 44 competing clubs.
Arno took the honours in the 200m individual medley (gold) and 100m butterfly (gold) events, racing to the finish line inside the National Level 3 qualifying times, following this up with silver in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 200m backstroke.
Liam scooped the silver medal in a thrilling 50m freestyle final that saw him touch a mere 15 split seconds behind first place in a time of 29.66. He went on to add three more silver medals to his tally in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle events. Clarisa progressed through to eight finals, winning gold in the 50m butterfly, silver in the 200m individual medley, and bronze in the 100m butterfly.
Charles qualified for finals in all his events, improving his overall times by 12.99secs, while April progressed through to three finals, the 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m breaststroke, collecting valuable points for the team.
Jeandre Joubert achieved three finals, placing fifth in the 200m backstroke in a personal best time of 3:05.99, while Joshua Parry clocked his fastest time of the season in the 50m butterfly in 40.39seconds.
