Alex is ‘Nutts’ about bodyboarding
The grom is making waves in the bodyboarding arena.
BODYBOARDER Alex Nutt (11) of Margate, dubbed South Africa’s ‘super grom’, recently clinched victory at the Kumba Iron Ore West Coast Classic in the Cape.
In the same event, Georgie Mckeone, managed a fourth place in her section.
Alex dominated with big rolls and two massive inverts, and was ‘super happy’ with his win.
He explained that in his final heat he managed to get his barrel into an invert, thus scoring eight points.
“The surf was super fun during the final,” he said.
Alex started bodyboarding at the age of four years old. By five he was competing in contests, and he rode in his first national event at the age of six.
“I love bodyboarding, it’s such a cool sport,” he said.
During the final heat, he saw the expression on his opponents’ faces change when, at the last second, he picked the best wave of the heat for his last ride, and pulled off a massive invert and claimed the heat.
“I thought it was pretty funny but I don’t know if they did,” he laughed.
The youngster is now looking forward to the Plett Wedge Classic, one of the highlights on the bodyboarding calendar.
He has big dreams, too, and would love to win his division overall next year.
