NO Saturday league games could be played last weekend as the Bowls South Africa national tournaments are taking place in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Only the one section of men played their penultimate game in the midweek league with the log positions in Section 1 now being: Margate BC A 4+15, Southbroom 4+5, AMBC 3-, Village A 3-11, Riverside 2-9.
Their final game will be played on May 25.
The Kingfisher website is now up and running again. All draws and log positions, together with any photographs, will be placed on there for your convenience.
If any member has any news suitable for the website please send it through to the district secretary.
The headquarters for the novice singles tournament will be The Bell Bowling Club, starting on June 27.

BANNERS REST
RESULTS of the club drawn pairs finals played last Sunday saw the men’s pairs won by Glen Allen and John Keppler, with runners-up Aubrey Hood and Hannes du Plessis. The women’s pairs was won by Baba du Plessis and Margaret Labuschagne, with Amorie Schoëler and Sariena Fouchè runners-up. Closing date for entries to the club handicap singles is June 3, and will be played over June 14 and 15.
The draw for teams to represent Banners Rest in the Kinsey trophy taking place at Munster on May 30 is featured on the notice board. A reminder of the bingo & burger evening at the Breezeway tomorrow (May 23) at 5pm. Birthday wishes go to Brian Cole-Cook on May 26.

HIBBERDENE
THE monthly nominated mixed trips played recently was won by Malky and Isobel McManus with Judy Aiston. Second prize went to Cas Whiteman, Fay Patterson and Jill Whitmore.
Session prize was won by Apie Putter, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone. Grateful thanks to Sophia Cronje from Mooirivier Brokers who played in the competition and did very well. Last Friday afternoon, in the drawn mixed trips, Paul Grutter, Jackie Marais and Joey Venter trounced their opposition to win first prize.
Grateful thanks to the sponsors, Cutting Edge and Wimpy. The next competition is this Friday at 1.30pm, sponsored by Jolly Roger. Dennis Lewis returned to Johannesburg last week but not before he paid a fine for a wrong bias – first time ever, so he claims!
MARGATE BC
WINNERS of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on May 16 were Yvonne van Mentz and Helen Proctor. Runners-up were Hazel Hosken and Dawn Oehley and the session prize went to Sheena Absolom and Vicki de Beer.
The next sponsored tournament is the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 tomorrow (May 23). Play starts at 1.30pm. Contact Yvonne Bausek at 083 6021712 or enter. Visitors welcome.
The next bingo evening will be held on June 2. Sunday morning bowls are played in mufti and everyone is welcome.

MARGATE CC
THERE were no competitions last week as the Shelley Beach SuperSpar women’s trips had to be cancelled because of rain. However, this week is the Engel & Volkers men’s fours tomorrow (May 23).
It’s going to be a close fought match between Ken Tonge’s team and Ian Hutton’s team, with Jacque Snyman’s team not far off the running.
The open day this Sunday starts at 10am for 10.30am, followed by lunch.
The club has announced some special membership drives for all sections so if you have any of your friends that you feel would enjoy all the facilities available please speak to one of your committee members so that we can introduce new members. It will have to be in the next couple of weeks so please act fast.

NOMADS
THE Nomads Sunday was held at the Village, where 40 bowlers took part in a lovely morning competition, sponsored by Engel and Volker.
Winners were John Sutton, Mada Lindeque and Jean Bouverie.
Second prize went to Lenie Geyer, Herman Scheinberg and Bruce Coldwells.
In third place were Austen Knollys, Allan Dinning and Christine Faber.
Sportsmanship prize went to Ann Bailey, Rob Moni and Alison Dinning.
The whisky draw was won by Sandy Ferguson, and nearest to the pin was Leza Edwards.

PORT EDWARD
BLUE skies, good food and cold beer were the order of the day for the 56 bowlers who took part in the Garrun Group Fantastic Fours last Saturday.
A superb green produced excellent bowls. John Riley handed out great cash prizes to the various winners.
Overall winners were Barry Payn, Trish Steyn, John Keppler and Phillipa Rowney. Runners-up were Dave Banks, Trevor Smith, Mary Warner and Joan Lindley.
Session prize went to Gawie Bosman, Gino Alilovic, Anne Wells and Stephanie Harries.

PORT SHEPSTONE
THE Pool Prof team of John Hove, Judy Hove and Cheg Chegwidden won the fifth round of the Business Challenge last Friday, however the overall leaders are the Pro Shop. The next challenge takes place on June 20.
The novice singles championship took place last weekend, with Kevin Lancaster the winner and Geoff Hudson the runner-up.

The Fruit & Veg City in-house 2-4-2 was won by Bob MacFarlane and Sandy Shepherd, with Bob Maroney and Val Bedecker in second place. Session prize went to Sheugnet and Piet Pretorius. The Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips was won by Shegneut Pretorius, Molly Williams and Tammy Gibbons. In second were Sharonlyn Darcy, Julie Cornwall and Annette Scott, session prize Marie Coetzer, Mada Lindeque and Sharon Bischoff. The South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 is being played this morning (Thursday). The Glasfit mixed trips will be played on May 25, with the Dr Darryl D’Arcy men’s trips on May 29. THE BELL
A GREAT development fun afternoon was had by all last Wednesday when MTN Coastal Cellular sponsored a ‘cricket’ game. Lots of new faces were welcomed to give bowls a try.
Winners were Mada Lindeque, Denise Nel and Stan Sackett. Runners-up were Val Boshoff, Adele Reader and Eddie Lewis. Master blaster bowler was Keiron Dacey, master blaster batsman was Charles Murgatroyd.
The winner of the cellphone raffle was Marie Pick. Winners of the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Alan Mandy, Stafford Tippett, Adele Reader and Angela Moorhouse.
Second were Luke Pohl, Maureen Head, Johannie Theron and Ronel Bourman. Session prize went to Duncan Randall, Austen Knollys, Maureen Vorster and Pam Schutte.
Winners of the Jaxx/Venture Inn men’s trips were Louw Vermeulen, Keith Harcomb and Kevin Mullen. Runners-up were Trevor Harris, Geoff Barbour and Tony Botha. Session prize went to Jody Slade, Mark Bischoff and John Louw. The club singles finals will be played this Saturday at 1.30pm.

ERIC Griersen and Isabel Prenger won the J Cee Sounds mixed pairs played last Monday, from runners-up Willie Knott and Anette Scott.The session prize was won by Dave Matthews and Mada Lindeque (apologies for not having the scores). Mike King, with Richard and Kitty Cochman and Tammy Gibbons, won the 3rd Avenue mixed fours played last Friday, with a score of 4+10 from runners-up Ty and Doreen Ferguson, with John and Ann Payne on 4+8.
The session prize was won by Tony and Cynthia Korb with Dumisani Madlala and Eudelle Caney on 3+11. The next event is the Abingdon Road Spar women’s 2-4-2 today (May 22). The 50/50 board was won by Tony Korb.
