Organisers rev up for annual car show
Local charities will benefit from this popular annual motoring event.
ABOUT 450 vehicles will go on show and some 6 000 visitors are expected to come along to admire them at the Scottburgh Classic Car and Bike Show at Scottburgh Country Club on Sunday, July 20.
This year Austin Healey will be the featured marque and many of these magnificent British sports cars, from all over South Africa, are expected to motor to Scottburgh to be part of the show.
As well as a wonderful static display of classy classics of all sorts of different marques, there will be three hours of moving parades of pre-1975 classic cars and motorcycles. This year’s main feature will be the Concours d’Elegance Parade in which car club members will dress up in period clothes to match the decade of their classic car. There will be two R500 cash prizes for the best dressed cars and owners but entries will be limited.
The Country Club has a large bar and a restaurant and there will be a huge variety of food available on the display field as well as the very popular tea garden and beer tent. Entry details remain unchanged from last year except that only classic cars and all motorbikes will park in the club grounds. Visitors can park free at the Scottburgh High School, where they can take one of the three free shuttle buses to the showground. There is also parking in the streets surrounding the club.
This year the show’s two primary beneficiaries will be The Society of St Vincent de Paul, which provides relief to the poor and needy, and the Pennington People’s Community Centre, an upliftment centre that teaches skills to the unemployed so they can generate an income.
