League team ‘rocks’ at Toti
PORT Shepstone Country Club’s women golfers played the first league match of the season according to the new betterball match format at Amanzimtoti last Sunday. Partners Yzelle Greyling and Debi Stewart, Cilla Lindsay and Jenny Hulley, Cecelia Verster and Annie Stoppel took on Southbroom and came away with two wins and a draw, earning themselves five out of a maximum points and nothing short of a ‘rocking’ performance.
After some serious arithmetic, the individual Stableford played on Wednesday, May 21 was won by Kevin Loring on 37 points after a count-out from Gerald Koch and Ken Morris also on 37.
Charles Mostert’s tidy 45 points, one better than Graham Dickson was enough to see him win Saturday’s individual Stableford. Dick Mol, also carding 44 points was placed third, followed by Johann van Niekerk on 39 points.
Wobblers go wild
WOBBLERS headed south to the Wild Coast Country Club for its compo, sponsored by El Gato Restaurant last Wednesday. Always a challenging course to play, and after a hard day’s work staying firmly in the middle of the fairways Wayne Minnaar, Eddie Scheepers, Thys Bothma and Alan Davies were delighted to win the event with 81 points on a count-out from Cyril Greensmith, Piet Pretorius, Tony Comte and Otto Mutschler. Tony Peace, Rob McGill, Roy Knight and Ken Oakley on 78 were third on a count-out from Fred Boshoff, Rob Brien, Dave Boyd and Brian Jeffreys.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater was won by Dieter Jucker, Dieter Berend, Hans Bielhartz and Robert Henning on 63 points. Alan Davies was the lucky winner of the El Gato Portuguese Restaurant prize – a round of golf for two at the Wild Coast.
Thursday’s individual Stableford, sponsored by Margate Pro Shop was won by John Crewe on 39 points, followed by Theo Moussouris on 38, after a count-out from Rob McArthur. The nearest pin (16th) sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages went to Alan Fourie.
Barbara Jackson and Jane Davies carding 50 points were the clear winners of the betterball Stableford competition sponsored by Pro Deo last Saturday, followed by Elvis Khawula and Douglas Sima 49, Ronnie Mtshaka and Mot Moleele 48, Koko Zithumane and Sipho Nxumalo 48, Anton Kohrmann and Deon Meyer 47, 6 Debbie Ross and Gordon Ross 46 oco, 7 Hannetjie Pretorius and Margaret Taylor, oco 8 C Ferriera and G. Sandy and Lan boogie the bogey
PLAYING in cold windy conditions last Wednesday, Southbroom stalwarts Sandy Luus and Lan Yeadon scored a very commendable plus 11 in the betterball bonus bogey comp. Jean Purtell and Geraldine Treherne were second on plus 10 after a count-out from Margaret Sherratt and Bess Germs.
