The skips of all participating clubs in the women’s first league conferred after round nine results and decided to abandon play for the 10th round as the last round would not have made a difference to the winners of this division or to the last placed club. The competition secretary agreed with their decision, therefore round nine results stand as MGT A 33+145 (Winner), BELL 26+53, PSCC 25+16, MGT B 25-5, MCC 21.5-35, HIB 4.5-184.
Men’s fours: UMT 6+1 (winner), RSC 4+15, MGT 4+6, BNR 4-1, BELL 2-21. Women’s fours: PED 10+59 (winner); UT 6+21; BELL 6+12; RSC 4-13; HIB 2-30; VILL 2-46.
Final results of men’s midweek league: AMBC 5+8 (winner); MGT 4+7; RSC A 4; VILL A 3-11; SBM 4-4.
Clubs are reminded the play-offs for the midweek league will be at Port Edward on Thursday, June 19.
The draws for the KBA men’s and women’s pairs are at their clubs and on the website. Good bowling to all those taking part in this tournament which starts on Saturday, June 21.
The novice’s draw is also posted and competitors are reminded to bring along a marker for this competition.
RIVERSIDE
THE Fruit and Veg City mixed 2-4-2 previously scheduled for June 27 will now be played next Wednesday, June 18 in view of the club hosting the KBA novices. Members are also advised there will be no tabs in on Saturday, June 28. Apologies for the changes.
Joan Muir is on the mend after a long absence due to a fall and is hoping to be back with us very soon. Although Joan has retired, members thank her for being the club’s scribe for the last three years. Chummy Smith is wished a speedy recovery after sustaining an injury.
Vi Eltis, Edna Beckett and Alan Beckett are thanked for holding the jumble sale. Thanks also to those who made the jumble sale a success by giving articles.

LOUW Vermeulen and his team are congratulated on winning the Hibiscus Week mixed fours and Luke Pohl and his team on coming fourth. MARGATE CC
JOHN Sutton, Tony Simmonds and Herman Scheinberg won the men’s trips sponsored by Hibiscus Coast Retirement Villages with the incredible score of 4+31. Runners-up on 4+5 on a shot count out were Rassie Erasmus, Martiens Olivier and Bruce Coldwells. The session prize went to Ray Visser, John Gibson and Harry Nicholson with a score of 2+16 and the lucky 50/50 draw winner was Bill Brown.The Hair Shoppe women’s fours was won by Marianne van Buuren, Elbe Snyman, Estelle Carter and Leoni Booth with a score of 21+12. Hazel Hosken, Rosemary Esterhuysen, Audrey Faux and Louis Mann were runners-up with a score of 18+10 and Yvonne van Mentz was the lucky 50/50 winner. Mike Green won the Barry Fowler tabs award for the month of May. Please arrange your club competitions for Wednesday mornings. However if you don’t have a competition arranged there will be tabs in. On Thursday morning it will be tabs only.

MUNSTER
ELBE Snyman and Myra Doubell won the women’s pairs sponsored by Harmony Nails. Ella Smith and Beryl Laurent were runners-up and the second session went to Louise Dry and Rita Zietsman. Irene Filmer won the board.
Saturday saw members and visitors playing a special afternoon of bowls. The occasion was Theresa McPherson’s 100th birthday. Theresa started playing bowls in 1953 and is still an active bowler at the club, regularly attending tabs. The bowls was followed by a splendid dinner in her honour. Thanks go to Margaret Moakes and her team for this meal.

SOUTHPORT
THE club will be celebrating its 80th birthday this Saturday, June 14 and members and partners are invited to take part in a special game of cricket bowls in the afternoon, followed by a meal.
Members are reminded to come along this Monday, June 16 at 10am to support those competing in this year’s men’s and women’s singles finals. The matches will be followed by a bring and braai.
MARGATE BC
THE women’s league teams are congratulated for taking first and third places in the premier league. This was a great achievement.
Trevor Heywood and Johnny Louch won the Margate Panel Beaters men’s 2-4-2 last Friday on 4+19 from Derick McKechnie and Brian Smallburger on 4+3. The first session went to Gino Alilovic and John Richards on 2+6 and the second session was won by Dieter Schulz and John Sutton on 2+9. Ernie Southward, Norman Slater and Ken MacLarty went home with the Uvongo Spar vouchers and Danny McCarthy and Garth Philpott were the lucky draw winners.
Martins Electronics will be sponsoring drawn open trips this afternoon (Thursday, June 12) with free boerewors rolls afterwards for this inaugural tournament. The winners will receive R600. There will also be lucky draws of R100 each, but remember, winners must be in attendance to claim the prize. This will become a regular tournament and Martins Electronics is thanked for its generous sponsorship.
The next sponsored tournament is the Fruit and Veg City open trips on Friday, June 13 and the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2. YVONNE James and Denise Palframan won the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 from runners-up, Vicki de Beer and Trixie Smith. Sessions went to Nelia Reed and Nora Hill and to Rosemary Esterhuysen and Marie Momple. Rosemary also won the 50/50.

CHRIS Forward and Vi Pells won the Tops Port Edward mixed pairs played on Friday, June 6. Brian and Pam Cole-Cook were runners-up and the second session was won by Ally Weir and Amorie Schoëler. The 50/50 board went to Brian Camps.
Next sponsored competition will be the Banners Rest women’s 2-4-2 on Wednesday, June 18.
Closing date for entries for the club’s open singles is June 17, with play scheduled to be completed by Sunday, June 29.
PORT EDWARD
WELL done to Marianne van Buuren, Myra Doubell, Estelle Carter and Leoni Booth for remaining unbeaten in the Saturday women’s fours league. The men are through to the midweek league semis on Thursday, June 19 to be hosted by Port Edward. Members are asked to come along and give their support to the local stars. Entrance is free and boerie rolls will be on sale.

HIBBERDENE
WITH the exception of a little rain and a thunderstorm on Thursday afternoon, the Hibiscus Week tournament went off without a hitch and was declared to be an outstanding success.
Louw Vermeulen and team from The Bell are congratulated on winning the shield, followed by Ollie Coetzer and team from PSCC, Barry Earnshaw and team from AMBC, Luke Pohl and team from The Bell and Malcolm Baker and team from PSCC.
The plate, played on the last two days was won by John Cross and team from Vryheid and Wally Joseph and team from Benoni Lake.

Neighbouring clubs (Port Shepstone, Tweni, The Bell, Southport and Hibberdene) which made facilities available during this annual week long tournament are sincerely thanked.
