Netball players have high ‘hoops’
The mayor encouraged the girls to play to the best of their ability.
THE South African Schools’ Netball (SASN) tournament officially kicked off with the opening ceremony at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Monday this week.
Present were various representatives from the netball fraternity as well as members of Hibiscus Coast and Ugu Municipalities, Ugu South Coast Tourism and pupils from schools in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
SASN president Di Wooley encouraged competitors to go into this tournament with zest and the desire to do their best.
“If you begin to think that you are a champion, you need to live like one,” she said.
She warned players not to shift blame if they do not win. “A true champion does not make excuses. Don’t blame the umpire, the coach or your team members, but rather ask yourself, how can I improve?”
Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, welcomed all players and paid tribute to the young women from all over the country who had chosen to take part in the event.
“We are very proud of you and may the best province win,” she said.
