Women play for worthy cause

THE Port Shepstone Country Club women golfers played in the annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge last Thursday.
The competition fees, paid by the women, were donated to the Cancer Association.
Sanlam sponsored all the wonderful prizes and a good day was had by all.
The winners were Lizzie Currie (A division), Beryl Olden (B division) and Hermien Theunissen (C division). They qualify to go through to the next round.
In the men’s comp, Trevor Green benefited from the countout after four players tied on +5. Taking the runner-up spots were Denis Schmidt, Paul Geoffery and Ken Morris.Saturday’s comp saw Gerald Koch and Rob Calder win on 77 points, one ahead of Trevor Green and Graham Dickson.On 74 points were Gavin van Wyk and Ken Morris, followed by Howard Frizelle and Leon Reeders on 72 points.

Mr Consistent wins again

SANTHOS Baskali was crowned Pro-Vision’s champion for the third time and has proven to be the club’s most consistent golfer so far.
Santhos saw off Graham Fabricius in a closely fought battle.
This coming Sunday will see the seventh Captain’s Cup tournament being played at Margate Country Club. Tee off is from 8am.

Ronnie edges out Elvis
>RONNIE Mtshaka won Margate Country Club’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge last Saturday on 38 points, two clear of Elvis Khawula. Wonder Nxumalo was third on 34 points .Piet Ludick took the laurels in the B division on 42 points, with Arthur Elhert next on 40 points. Fanie Terblanche was third on 39 points.
In the C division Theuns Esterhuizen grabbed first prize on 40 points, seven ahead of Norman Bridger and John Crewe.
Beryl Williamson won the women’s individual Stableford at Margate Country Club last Tuesday.
She carded 38 points to edge out Evelyn Burls and Margaret Taylor, who both had 36 points.
One further adrift was Irene Tomlinson on 35 points.
The Wobblers’ game was won by Louie Kuhn, Gert Bezuidenhout and Dolf Willemse on 93 points.
In second spot were Jim Finn, Alex Botha and Tony Comte on 92 points. Third place was taken by Frank Stephens, Eddie Scheepers and Keith Duncalf on 90 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson floater went to Dieter Jucker, Robert Henning and Dave Boyd on 76 points.
Alan Davies returned nett 69 to win the Thursday comp by one from John Ford, John Webster and Sandi Johnston.Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was Johan Stoltz.

WEDNESDAY’S comp at Southbroom Golf Club was won by Dave Neilson on nett 69, on a countout from Trevor Lauf.
Malcolm Greenland was third on nett 70.
Greg Hall won the Stableford on 40 points, with Art Germs and Graham Taylor next on 39 points.
Janet Humphrey won the women’s comp on nett 71, with Eileen Neilson second on nett 72 and Ruth Mosburger third on nett 74.
The Saturday alliance saw Stuart Janvier, Karl Mosburger, Gerd Graser and Richard Bridgeford clean up on 96 points.
Runners-up were Hugh Purtell, Dave Neilson, Paul Cole and Dave Page on 94 points.
In the women’s section, the winners were Mary Carolan, Janet Barclay, Michelle Davies and Bessie Germs on 88 points, one ahead of Karen Bridgeford, Janet Humphrey, Shelley Myers and Augustine D’Ewes.
