WINNERS of the Fruit &Veg City 2-4-2 were Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie. Tony Aveyard and Marie Pick came second and session went to Inger Mitchell and Tony Botha.

The next competition is the Hibiscus mixed trips tomorrow. Convenor, Dave Matthews and Mada Lindeque, catering – Denise Nel and Joey Cordier. Duties: tabs – Maureen Head, Luke Pohl, bar – Jody Slade, umpire – Michelle Vermeulen.

MARGATE BC

HEATHER Roberts and Yvonne van Mentz won the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 last Friday on 4+23. Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor were runners-up on 4+22 and session went to Yvonne James and Jean Bouverie.

Mark Smith, Dave Taylorson and Wendy Walker won the Fruit & Veg City vouchers and the lucky draw went to Georgie McKechnie. Barbara Brook, Ron Canning, Enid Morcom and Johnny Louch took ‘closest score’.

Next sponsored tournaments are the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 tomorrow at 1.30pm (free boerewors rolls for players) and the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 on August 1. THE Engel & Volkers mens fours ‘league’ matches had some big leader board swings this month. Graham Gold’s team comprising Graham, Albert van der Lith, Danie van der Post and Cliff Moakes had a good win (22 + 15) and moved up two places.

Barry Herbert’s team comprising Denzil Massyn, Barry, Chris Abram and Bill Parfitt on 20 +18 also moved up two places into second place. Third place went to league leaders, Barry Delvin, Malcolm Baker, Mike Jefferies and Danny McCarthy (18 + 4). Bill Eccles won the 50/50 draw.

Sheena Absalom, Vickie de Beer and Yvonne James won the Manaba Kwikspar women’s trips on 4+21. Ellen Cawker, Vi Pells and Pam Cole-Cook were runners-up on 4 + 19. Session went to Mal Moni, Ann Bailey and Christine Faber (2 + 11). Mal Sheppard took 50/50.

Tabs-in will revert to Wednesday mornings and Saturday afternoons. Monday is green keepers’ day and Thursday mornings is for ‘bounce’ matches, club competitions, front rankers and ‘on the perch’ matches for new bowlers.

DENNIS Graham and Cynthia Korb won the JCee Sounds mixed pairs on July 14 with a score 4+17 from runners-up Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’ Moore on 4+12. George and Marie Pick took session on 2+18 and scored a ‘perfect eight’.

Nico Schophaus, Margaret Mitchell, Molly Williams and Val Boshoff won the 3rd Avenue mixed fours last Friday on 4+15 from runners-up Tyrone and Doreen Ferguson, with John and Anne Payn on 4+7. Bep Gouweloos, Tony Aveyard, Felicity Howe and Mike Findlay took session on 2+4.

John Payn, Barrie Queen, Hazel Lough and John Roelofse won the Schooners Galley Restaurant in-house competition played last Saturday with a score of +14 and Bep Gouweloos, Louis Marx, Kathy Simpson and Janine Roelofse came second on +4. The next club event is the Harbour View SuperSpar in-house mixed 2-4-2 on August 1.

Congratulations go to Marie Pick (champion, women’s section of the club’s handicap singles competition), Doreen Ferguson (runner-up), Dennis Graham (champion, men’s section), and Eric Grierson (runner-up).

MUNSTER

CONGRATULATIONS to women’s and men’s singles champions Louise Dry and Graham Gold. Winners of the 7th Heaven men’s pairs were Danie van der Post and Albert van der Lith. Aubrey Hood and Glen Allen were runners-up, session went to Mac McKenzie and Des Reid and Herman Botha took the board.

Graham Gold, Piet Heunis and Willie Smith were overall winners at the ‘President’s Day’, runners-up were Aubrey Hood, Glen Allen and Philip Lotter. Des Reid, George Snyman and Gino Alilovic took the session and the sporting prize was awarded to Patrick Kirkbright, Steve Golding and Hein Bester

THE new committee voted in at the AGM last Saturday are Bob Macfarlane (president), Brian Marriott (vice president) and Jane Massam (secretary).

Winners of the Glasfit mixed trips played on July 20 were Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede, with Jacques and Jan Snyman and Sheenagh Dempster as runners-up. Third place went to Val Bedecker, Ted Pownell and Tom Leek. The Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips will be played this afternoon.

VILLAGE

BILL Latham and Ken Hills won the Martins Electronics men’s 2-4-2, followed by Dave Aitken and Oscar Pienaar. Sessions went to Arthur Orr and Billy Eccles, and Denzil Massyn and Chris Abram. Brian Hughes took 50/50.

The next sponsored competition is the women’s 2-4-2 on August 4. Anyone wishing to enter competitions or find a partner must enter names on club lists or phone Hazel at 039 3125277.

The in-house Hyundai drawn mixed trips was won by Basil Redshaw, Chris Allen and Charlotte van Niekerk, followed by Ken Hills, Fred van Niekerk, Nan Sayce and Joan Tracey, and Bill Latham, Monica Middlewick and Muriel Gartell.

The Hibiscus Insurance Development drawn mixed trips was won by Brian Hughes, Irene Holland and Sandy Kruger, then Barry Christie, Winston van Greunen and Manny Piquito. Third spot went to Dave Garland, Nancy Hughes and Gerald Kinsey.

Lists for club singles competitions are up, enter names and give markers some practice.

BANNERS REST

CHRIS Forward and Brian and Pam Cole-Cook won the Banners Rest mixed trips last Wednesday, runners-up were Des Reed, Elbe Snyman and Trish Steyn. Session went to Maureen la Grange, Dave Hume and Kotie Snyman and Chris Forward took 50/50.

Next sponsored competitions are the Banners Rest mixed pairs (August 1) and Tops Port Edward men’s pairs (August 3). Catering, Sheila Hankey and Olive Ashworth.

The KBA men’s trips sections 1 and 2 play-offs are on July 26 and 27 and the semi-final and finals on July 28. Birthday wishes go to Ron Camps (July 28).

CONGRATULATIONS to Ivan Hosken, Norman Isherwood and Carl Volker who won the Tiago’s men’s trips last Tuesday. Runners up were John Sutton, Hans Wijtman and Alfred Shusha. First session went to Tony Simmonds, John Richards and Ian Hutton, and Chris Forward, Aubrey Hood, and Steve Rennie took second session. 50/50 went to Hans Wijtman.

The Criss Cross open trips takes place this morning and the hotly-contested Mac Banana Fazenda Restauranté’s 2-4-2 is tomorrow at 3pm.

LAST Friday, ‘The good, the bad and the ugly’ team comprising Leon Reeders, Charles Mostert and Max Maxted won the seventh round of the Business Challenge. Thanks to Des Smith and Umtentweni Service Station for the generous sponsorship. The next Business Challenge is on August 15.

The Harbour View SuperSpar trips last Sunday was won by Gill Barker, Duncan Randall and Renzo van Niekerk. Runners-up were Allan Jacobson, Keith Thiele and Gill Thiele. Thanks to Eddie Fann for organising the tournament.

LEONI Booth is the women’s open singles champion with Marianne van Buuren as runner-up. Winners of the Indulgence mixed trips were Elbe Snyman, Trish Steyn and Mike Carter, runners-up were Peter Ziervogel, Maureen la Grange and Sariena Fourie and the Munster team comprising David Lindley, Sergio Ruperto and Pat Ruperto, won session.

Duties: bar – Roy Simpson, tabs – Barry Payn, tea – Stephanie Harries, eats (29/7) – Pat Miller and Frank Foley.

HIBBERDENE

THE contested men’s singles final last Wednesday between Arthur Seager and Norman Aiston was won by Arthur on 21-17. The Cutting Edge/Wimpy drawn trips (ended up being a 2-4-2) was won by Arthur Seager and Joey Venter. Second place went to Susan Fourie and Brian Commins, Miriam Seager and John Hoyer took session.

The next sponsored competition is the Jolly Roger drawn trips tomorrow, and the AGM is on August 13 at 5pm.
