New committee at Southbroom

PEDDY Bam is the new chairman at Southbroom Tennis Club.

He was elected after the club’s well attended annual general meeting last Saturday.

The new committee is Peddy Bam (chairman), David Crouwkamp (captain), Nicky Momberg (treasurer), Luise Mohr (secretary), and members Ron Stirling and Mary Rawlins.

During this meeting the trophies and prizes were presented to the winners and the runners-up of this year’s championships, which were played in March and April 2014.

As a first, a trophy was presented to the most improved player, Mary Rawlins.

Thanks were extended to the sponsors, in particular Coffee On The Square and Le Plantation.

Tennis was played afterwards in perfect weather, followed by a bring and braai.

Tennis enthusiasts are welcome to join in on social tennis days, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2pm.

New members are more than welcome, or play in your own time for only R30 per hour per court.

Champs under way at Tweni

THE championships got into full swing at Umtentweni Tennis Club last weekend, with several men’s singles and men’s doubles being played.

Dan Dimitriu beat Rob Browne, Raj Naganna beat Damien Williams, Ronald Tarboton beat Pieter Burger, Ross Klusener beat Gavin Mellors and Colin Barker beat Ross Klusener.

In an exciting three-setter, Gavin Mellors and Ross Klusener managed to clinch victory in the third set against Tap Kruger and Pieter Burger.

In a real nail-biting match, Tap Kruger and Chloë Dutton emerged the victors over Mervyn Tarboton and Trish Wood with a third set score of 6-5.

Players were well fed by Gavin Mellors with delicious quiches and choc chip muffins among other goodies – no doubt thanks to Sarah!

Mervyn Tarboton supplemented the eats with Gloria’s well-known and thoroughly enjoyed chocolate cake.
