Sole to lead again
>
The Southbroom golfer will be leading the provincial team once more.
>
GAVIN Sole (44) will captain the KwaZulu-Natal men’s golf team at this year’s IPT at Westlake in the Cape.
It’s his third stint at the helm and he is looking forward to leading a team loaded with youngsters out of the B section.
“Foursomes will be a priority,” said Sole, who suggested that it had been a weak area in the past.
It looks as if he will partner teenage sensation Matt Saulez of Durban Country Club, who won the KZN Closed at Kloof Country Club last weekend.
Sole finished four shots behind the 17-year-old, despite finishing with a final round 66.
The course was hard and dry, as are most courses in the province at the moment. This made clean ball striking crucial, not something everyone got right.
The team is Gavin Sole, Matt Saulez, Kevin Rundle, Leorin Pillay, Derek Scullard, Greg Upneck, Malcolm Mitchell and Siyanda Mwandla.
It will be the 15th time the Big Fish will be teeing it up in an IPT.
He made his debut in the mid 90s, alongside the likes of Tim Clark.
