AGM for Uvongo members

UVONGO Tennis Club members are advised that the 63rd annual general meeting will take place at the club on Saturday, August 30 at 1pm.
Social tennis will be played after the AGM with a bring and share braai to follow. Please refer to full details on the notice board.
The club championships came to a close last weekend.Results: men’s singles – Ralph Burls, men’s doubles – Harry Vermaak and Ralph Burls, mixed doubles – Neil Perry and Annamarie Wege, women’s singles – Annamarie Wege, women’s doubles – Annamarie Wege and Ellene Barbadimos.
It was great to have regular visitors to the coast, Ian and Sharon Turnbull and Roland Murray return to play.
Sadly, they had to return home to Barkly East on Monday.
Two other regular visitors, Meisie van den Heever and Kobus Ball, who also play when on holiday, have decided to become members of the club.
Congratulations to Willem and Irene Erasmus whose daughter Therita has been accepted for BEd at Tuks.
Birthday wishes to Ed Greenberg, Johan Hamman, Maggie Cockroft and Marietjie Stols for the month of August.
Thoughts and prayers go to Jan and Linda Visser and Lynette Shell, her niece Melanie and their families.
Jan is to undergo cardiac treatment in Cape Town in the next few days while Melanie is awaiting the arrival of her baby.
It was great to have Lorna Taylor visit the club over the weekend but it will be a few more weeks before she is able to play after her fall and resulting shoulder injury.

THE Umtentweni Tennis Club champs are through to the finals in all sections and these will be played on Saturday according to the following time schedule.
Men’s singles at 12pm: Colin Barker vs Raj Naganna who beat Ronald Tarboton and Dan Dimitriu respectively in the semis.
Men’s and women’s doubles at 1.30pm: Dan Dimitriu and Rob Browne who beat Gavin Mellors and Ross Klusener in the semis vs Colin Barker and Raj Naganna who were victorious over Justin Hinchliff and Steve Blakemore; Lynne Rorich and Pam Grobler vs Isabeau le Roux and Jean Marx.
Mixed doubles: Colin Barker and Isabeau le Roux vs Raj Naganna and Lynne Rorich who beat Justin Hinchliff and Shauna Hudson and Tap Kruger and Chloë Dutton respectively.
Those playing matches last week were nourished by the delicious eats brought by Chloé and Mike produced his ‘always-looked-forward-to Dutton quiche’ which disappeared very fast!
There will be breyani for all the players after the finals so please make an effort to stay.
A most welcome visit came from Jill Badenhorst last Saturday and it was good to see her. Unfortunately, her knees are still giving trouble so she couldn’t play but it was great to catch up on all her news.
