THE local SCARF club had a fly-in fellowship with the flying club from Kingsburgh in Oribi recently.
Bad weather was forecast and much to everyone’s surprise, sunshine and calm weather greeted flyers on arrival.
As more than 50 flyers confirmed their attendance, everything was set up early. The pilots started flying from 8am and did not stop until the wind started blowing with gusts at around 3pm.
The guests and members were welcomed by SCARF chairman Dennis Steenmans, who explained the rules for the day.
Everyone obeyed the rules by staying in the pilot box with a maximum of five flyers at any given time.
Pilots, family members and spectators were treated with coffee and tea. A lot of socialising was done by seeing what planes, drones or helicopters pilots brought to the field.
Everyone was impressed with young Dean Eggar’s (10) flying.
Dean Steenmans maidened a Spitfire from Kingsburgh – always a thrill to see.
Jacques Grobler had a lot of fun flying his Showtime 50. Billy du Plooy entertained the crowd with his Blade helicopter, while Willie Pretorius showed what can be done with drone flying.
Dennis Steenmans thrilled the crowds with his jet.
It was nice to see so many members attending. Dennis was very busy buddy–boxing (system where he trains pilots).
Dries Sander, John Warren, Jarred Steenmans and Aaron Cooper all had a few flights.
Kitty Steenmans and the women prepared a tasty lunch. There was good fellowship and the new picnic tables proved to be popular.
A lot of children were there to join in the family fun and it was nice to see so many of them interested in flying.
After lunch everyone slowly made their way home.
