Trophy time at Southbroom

There were some great scores posted during the week.

THE President’s Trophy was played for at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday. The men’s comp was won by Coert Britz and Malcolm Moorley on 49 points. Trudy Rush was on hand to present the trophy on behalf of her late husband Willie, who was the club president at the time of his death in February.Trudy’s youngest daughter Robyn, her husband Gareth, and their children Cameron and Paige were also there. Trudy’s son David was away on the North Coast playing a league match, or preparing for one.
Other daughter Pat, who is married to former Southbroom green keeper Sean van Niekerk, would have liked to have been there too, but felt it was a bit far to come all the way from Brisbane, Australia!
In second place were Mike Roe and Chris Miller on 47 points, followed on 46 points by Gerald Fitzgerald and Les Lawson, as well as Dave Neilson and Paul Cole.
The women’s trophy was won by Margie Sherratt and Trish Amm on 42 points, edging out Pam Quarmby and Jeanette Peyios, as well as Mary Carolan and Jean Purtell.
Lady president Di Morris did the honours.

Good support for business day

THE business day at Margate Country Club last Friday was well-supported and closely contested.
It was won by Christo Esterhuizen, Heber de Beer, Jaco van der Wal and Johan Neethling on 94 points, followed by Allan Halvorsen, Basie Geldenhuis, Frikkie van Zyl and Johan Erasmus on 93 pts.
In third place were Joan Minnaar, John Barker, Cyril Greensmith and Andrew van der Berg on 92 pts one ahead of Barbara Jackson, Maureen Ogilvie, Jane Davies and Lexley Lewis.
Nearest the pins: John Ford (2nd), Roy Knight (11th).

Ashoo claims double mug win
>
ASHOO Singh clinched a double win when he carded 36 points for Pro-Vision’s fifth monthly mug, played at Port Shepstone Country Club, and 38 points for the sixth mug at the Wild Coast Sun.
The other close contenders for the two mugs were Santhos Baskali, Justin Naidoo, Paul Naidoo and Preggie Perumal.
Singh dominated play in both tournaments and now has his eye on the year-end title.
He said his short game was the main ingredient for victory.
The draw for the second round of the matchplay section takes place at Time Out Sports Bar this Thursday at 7pm. All members are welcome to attend.
