THE inaugural novice invitational pairs competition, sponsored by Seagreen Holdings was won by Annette Scott and Barbara Fernihough from The Bell.
Second was Jerry Davey and Colin MacLeod (Sezela), Flip Geyer and Rick Thomson (Port Shepstone) came third and fourth place went to Brian Smalberger and Ian Hutton (MBC).
Martiens Olivier decided that since he was the youngest member, he would ask ‘oldest’ member Arthur Orr, who still plays exceptionally competitive bowls at age 88, to partner him.
Jo invited highly respected member, Gae Gravelle to partner her and both couples played excellent bowls in the ‘winners play losers’ matches on the Friday.
Thanks to Kobie Stander and Yvonne van Mentz for umpiring both days. The event was a great success and will be repeated next year. Tomorrow is the Hair Shoppe women’s fours. Duties from August 11, Dora Vosloo, Helen Proctor and Clive Edmundson.

THE fund-raisers for Doxa Christian Church, in aid of the Umephi Baby Home last Saturday, and the annual Moth Day last Sunday were very successful.
Shane Nienaber and Jonathan Jacobson won the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 with 4+11. Runners-up were Chris Forward and Ken Tonge on 4+10.
First session went to Herman Scheinberg and Kobus Faber (count out) and second session went to Tony Simmonds and Bill Read on 2+10. Athol Robertson, Vicki de Beer, Dennis Morcom and Liza Harris won the Henry’s Meat vouchers.

SHEPPIE Club hosted the South Coast Herald women’s fours competition last Thursday. Kobie Stander, Yvonne van Mentz, Barbara Iceton and Jean Marnewick took top honours, with Colleen Baker, Charmaine van Deventer, Astrid Jackson and Lesley Lancaster taking second spot.
The club’s singles championships also took place last weekend. The men’s final was a tightly-contested competition between Eddie Fann and Malcolm Baker, with Eddie eventually taking the title 21-19. Gill Thiele won the women’s final in an epic battle against Lesley Lancaster, eventually winning the game 21-17.

THE next Nomads competition is on Sunday, August 10 at the Margate Bowling Club at 8.30 for 9am. There will be a bring and braai after the competition and all bowlers are welcome.

LUKE Pohl and his team from The Bell won the well-attended annual Warwick mixed trips fours last Wednesday. Second was Allen Grey and his team from AMBC, session went to Mike Mordaunt and his team from AMBC and the liquor hamper was won by Bernard Carpenter.
The mixed nominated trips from last Friday was won by Felicity van Rensburg, Barbs Sates and Chris Snyman. Second was Keith Mills and John and Judy Hoyer and session was won by Callie and Estelle Quinn with Joey Venter.
The AGM is on August 13 after the monthly nominated trips sponsored by Mooirivier Brokers, and the Hibberdene Pharmacy nominated trips is on August 8.

BARRY Payn is once again club champion and will defend his ‘Champion of Champion’s’ title on August 30. Gino Alilovic and John Keppler got the better of Barry and Trevor Smith in the finals of the men’s nominated pairs.
Leoni Booth and Estelle Carter needed a perfect eight on the last end to beat Denise Brass and Pat Miller in the women’s final. The Seventh Heaven two bowl trips was won by Dave Hume and Steve and Jenny Rennie.
George and Elbe Snyman and Francine van der Merwe were runners-up. Des Reid, Denise Brass and Frank Foley won session. The club handicap singles got off to an exciting start and members are reminded to keep an eye on the board for further fixtures.
The Women’s Day trips is on August 9 at 9am. Port Edward women to bring eats. Duties: bar – Leigh Warner, tabs – George Snyman, tea – Alice Lumley, eats (Aug 14), Dice Graaf and Jeanette Offer. The AGM is on August 13.

DAVE Barber won the club’s men’s singles and Vi Eltis won the women’s singles. The next sponsored competition will be Hopden’s Spar open trips on August 13 and the AGM will be held on August 20 at 2 for 2.30 pm.
The women’s breakfast is on August 9 at 10.30 for 11am and the dress code is ‘casual with something pink’. If any men would like breakfast, the cost is R20.
