THE KBA Champion of Champions Tournament will be held at the Margate Bowling Club on Saturday and Sunday August 30 and 31. Play starts at 9am, so come along and enjoy what should be a great weekend of top-class bowlers battling it out for top honours.

AT the 58th AGM of the Bell Bowling Club, the following office bearers were elected – Duncan Randall (president), Tony Olivant (vice-president), Maureen Head (secretary), Tuppy Cox (treasurer), Trevor Celliers (green keeper), Jody Slade (bar convenor), and Geoff and Tina Barbour (competition secretaries).
At the meeting, the president gave an extra vote of thanks to the Herald for its commitment to the bowling fraternity and particularly to The Bell. Winners of the Venture Inn/Jaxx mixed trips were Duncan Randall, Geoff Barbour and Shaun Titmus. Second were Luke Pohl, Brian Sapsford and Johannie Theron. Session went to Alan Mandy, Stafford Tippett and Abe Basson. Duties: tabs – Ethné Holding and Adele Reader, bar – Willy Knott, umpire – Ethné Holding.

THE August Engel and Volkers men’s fours will take place tomorrow. Ken Tonge’s team will be challenged by Bill Brown’s team. Graham Gold’s team will come up against Ian Hutton’s team. With only four points between the second and fourth teams, the situation is very fluid.
The mixed trips is on August 26. Members to make use of Thursday mornings for practice sessions and bounce games. Duties: Gae Gravelle, Chris and Di Abram.

HEATHER Roberts and Yvonne van Mentz won the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on 4+18, runners-up were Sheena Absalom and Vicki de Beer on 4+15 and session went to Franci Philpott and Maureen Roach on 2+13

THE Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips last Tuesday was won by Johannie Theron, Maureen Head and Tina Barbour and Marie Coetzer, Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque were runners-up. Session went to Cyndy McMurtry, Daphne Hounsell and Una van Eeden.
Jane Massam, Geoff Kelleher and Cosmos Gumede won the Geochem mixed trips played last Sunday and Val Bedecker, Ted Pownell and Charles Mostert were runners-up. Third place went to Cheg Chegwidden, Tom Semple and Corrie Parsons. The South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 is today and the Southport/Umtentweni Fellowship Day mixed trips this Sunday. The Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips is on August 28.

IVAN Hosken, Clive Bignell and Dave Garland won the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips, followed by Rennie Geyer, Ron Canning and Eric Chamier. Sessions went to Rassie Erasmus, Barry Herbert and Chris Abram on a count out from Alan Tyers, Brian Hughes and Bill Parfitt and to John Sutton, Ali Mitchell and Doug Kent. THE final club championship games were last Sunday and Frank Foley is the men’s handicap singles champion and runner-up is Jokkie van Buuren. The women’s title went to Trish Steyn and Eve Gower was runner-up. Prize-giving is on September 26 at 4.30pm.
The club welcomed the 2014/15 committee at the AGM last Wednesday. Arthur Ronaldson was thanked by incoming president, Rob Lyle, for chairing an extremely successful 2014.
The 7th Heaven mixed trips went to Barry Payn, Rob Lyle and Phillipa Rowney. Steve Rennie, Maureen La Grange and Ally Weir were runners-up and Des Reid and Martiens and Rita Zietsman took session. The green is closed for annual maintenance from August 31. Duties: bar – Mike Carter, tabs – Nova Allen, tea – Jeannette Offer, eats (29th) – Denise Ralfe and Roger Humphrey.

THE ‘bowls and braai’ is this Sunday at 10.30 for 11am. Next competitions are the Criss Cross open trips on August 28 and Mac Banana’s 2-4-2 on August 29. Bowlers from Hillcrest Bowling Club will be visiting on September 27 and names must be entered to be in the Southbroom team. The AGM is on September 26 at 5pm.

THE nominated mixed trips was won by Arthur and Miriam Seager last Wednesday, with sponsor, Sophia Cronjé from Mooirivier Brokers. Second place went to Lionel France, Louise Snyman and Joey Venter and session went to Danie and Annetjie Human and Cheryl Knight.
At the AGM Bez Bezuidenhout was thanked for all his hard work, Eddie Milne was elected as new president, John Hoyer is vice president and bar convenor, Annetjie Human is secretary and Bubbles Bezuidenhout remains treasurer.
The next competition, sponsored by Harcourts Scottburgh Estates, is drawn trips. Remember the R2 green fees when submitting tabs for social bowls, which was voted on and accepted by all.
