KINGFISHER Bowling Association’s ‘Champion of Champions’ tournament will be held at the Margate Bowling Club on August 30 and 31. The tournament is on a knockout basis with the first games starting at 9am and the second at approximately 11.30am on both days. There will be no afternoon session on either of these two days.
The executive would like to thank all players who attended the district trials last weekend and wish them good luck for selection. Thanks to all clubs involved for making their greens and facilities available for players.

CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle Vermeulen for achieving third place in the recent ‘All Natal Singles’. The Fruit & Veg City mixed 2-4-2 was won by Barbara Fernihough and Abe Basson. Second were Steve O’Moore and Sharolyn Dacey and session went to Colin and Val MacMillan.

MARGATE CC
LOG leaders Barry Delvin, Ken Tonge, Mike Jefferies and Danny McCarthy showed their class at the Engel & Volkers men’s fours with a convincing win of 25+31, to win the Gold Prize.
Silver went to Leo Nice, Ray Visser, Sydney Ackerman and Jannie van der Nest with a score of 20+6, and bronze went to Graham Gold’s team of Graham, Albert van der Lith, Danie van der Post and Cliff Moakes with a score of 19+3.
Dave Barber’s team also scored 19 points, but lost on a shot difference by only one shot. The next match is on October 17. There will be four more games, with the last one being on December 12. On this day, the league log prizes will be awarded. Albert van der Lith won the 50/50 draw.
Ellen Cawker, Vi Pells, and Pam Cole-Cook won the Hopdens Manaba Kwikspar women’s trips, with a score of 4+30. Runners-up were Esta Wenzel, Annette Coomer and Georgie McKechnie with a score of 4+10. Session went to Rae Barber, Helen Proctor and Doreen van der Westhuizen and 50/50 was won by Vi Pells.
With effect from September 13, tabs-in will revert to summer times at 1.45pm. The AGM starts at 1.30pm on September 6 with awards and time permitting, a short tabs-in after the meeting. Duties: Jill Brent, Eula Greer and Bill Eccles.

ATHOL Robertson and Dieter Schulz won the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 last Friday on 4+30, runners-up were:Shane Nienaber and Franci Philpott on 4+23, first session went to Ron Canning and Yvonne Bausek on 2+3 and Riemer van der Wal and Sophia Cronjé took second session on 2+8.

Members are reminded that the KBA Champion of Champions will be held at MBC over the weekend and Athol Robertson and Annette Coomer will be representing the club.
A very successful AGM and prize-giving was held last week and office bearers elected were Derek McKechnie (president), John Richards (vice-president), Barbara Brook (secretary), Yvonne Bausek (treasurer), Eileen Abel (development), Trixi Smith and Ian Hutton (competition secretaries), Johnny Louch, Ellen Cawker, Kobus and Christine Faber (committee members).
Bingo evening is on September 1 in the clubhouse. Sunday morning bowls are played in mufti and bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome.

THE nominated mixed trips played last Friday was won by the Hoyer family, Bruce, John and Judy. Second prize went to Norman and Judy Aiston and Louise Shone. Session went to Danie and Annetjie Human and Cheryl Knight. Thanks to Harcourts Scott Bay Real Estates and Chris Shone for the generous sponsorship.
The mixed fours is nearing the end, so quite good bowls is expected over the next few weeks. Athur Seager and Louise Shone are wished good bowling this coming weekend. The club’s singles top players championship is at the Margate Bowling Club this Saturday and Sunday on a knockout system.
The next competition is the 2-4-2 tomorrow afternoon at 1.30pm sponsored by the club’s lifelong member Mike Hoyer.

BARRY Payn, Vi Pells and Amorie Schoëler won the SuperSpar Port Edward mixed trips last Wednesday. Runners-up were Sergio and Pat Ruperto with Trish Steyn, second session went to Dave Hume, Ally Weir and Jenny Rennie, and 50/50 went to Barry Payn.
This year’s club mixed pairs championship was won by Steve Rennie with Sariena Fouché, runners-up were Peter Ziervögel with Amorie Schoëler. The club men’s handicap singles final was won by Dave Hume with Glen Allen as runner-up.
The next sponsored competitions are the Chico’s and Banners Rest mixed pairs on September 5, and the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on September 7.

THE annual ‘battle of the sexes’ takes place at Port Edward on August 30 during afternoon tabs. Dress as a ‘hobo’ and join us for an afternoon of fun and a ‘spider’ to raise funds for the National Blind Bowlers’ Association.
The Migamed mixed trips was won by Barry Payn, Trish Steyn and Phillipa Rowney. Andreas van de Linde, John Keppler and Hazel Delaney were runners-up and session went to Dave Banks, Gino Alilovic and Pam Gilson.
Members are reminded that work on the green and clubhouse begins next Monday morning. Barry Payn and Leoni Booth are wished well for the Champion of Champions on August 30.

TICKEY and Denise Nel won the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 played last Thursday and Cheg Chegwidden and Martie Human were runners-up. Session went to Johan McLeod and Margaret Brooks.
The Southport/Umtentweni Fellowship Day mixed trips held last Sunday was a great success and won by Southport. The Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips is today (August 28).
Congratulations to Marilyn Sinclair and Sandy Shepherd for winning the women’s pairs and Richard Cochman and Tom Semple, the men’s.
