KBA

CONGRATULATIONS to players who were selected to play in this season’s masters tournament at the Riverside Sports Club on October 4 and 5.

The masters and district selections will be announced at Margate Bowling Club after the Doug Watson Memorial Tournament prize-giving on Sunday afternoon.

The KBA district colours presentation will be at Margate BC on October 18 and the third skills development academy at Scottburgh is postponed to October 19. Players’ Association will hold its AGM at 9am, after which the district sides will play men against women, followed by the presentation and a bring and braai.

Welcome back to Ken Tonge, Chris Forward, Louw Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer, who represented the district in the national finals of the SpecSavers Pro-Ten held in Port Elizabeth last weekend.

Well done to the South African teams who played in the recent African States Tournament in Botswana, coach Theuns Fraser and manager, KBA’s own Jessica Henderson, for bringing home gold for the pairs, fours and singles, and a silver medal for the trips in the women’s section.

The men won silver in the pairs and fours and gold for the trips and singles, another great achievement. Members are reminded that the AGM will be held at Margate Bowling Club on October 8 at 9.30am.

THE BELL

WINNERS of the Venture Inn/Jaxx mixed trips were Brian Rawlins, John Nadauld and Murray Ross, runners-up were Neville Slade, John Louw and Anne Hunkin, and Gary le Brasse, Rick Roberson and Val Boshoff took third place.

Lynne Bamber, Barry Delvin, Rita Dommett, Brian Porteous won the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours last Friday, with Luke Pohl, Maureen Head, Johannie Theron and Phil Viljoen as runners-up. Duncan Randall, Margie Randall, Stan Sackett and Barry Krause came third. The women’s triangular was won by The Bell.

There is only one green open from September 17 so submit names early to avoid disappointment. The KBA 300 club is up and running and any funds generated go to help district bowlers. Thoughts and prayers go to Bob Gouldie and family.

Tabs in days are going well and visitors are welcome to join on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1.30pm. There will be morning bowls followed by a braai on September 24.

HIBBERDENE

AT the Southport Fellowship Challenge, Hibberdene came second out of four clubs. The Hibberdene Pharmacy nominated mixed trips was won by Gloria Gerrard, Louise Snyman and Bubbles Bezuidenhout. Second place went to Bruce, John and Judy Hoyer. Session prize went to Danie and Annetjie Human and Cheryl Knight

The Moorivier nominated mixed trips last Wednesday went to Danie and Annetjie Human and Cheryl Knight. Second place went to Norman Aiston, Chris Snyman and Louise Shone and session prize went to Arthur Seager, Gloria Gerrard and Miriam Seager.

Hibberdene BC won back the trophy at the Sezela/Hibberdene Challenge. The greens are now closed, but if anyone can lend a hand, please visit the club.

UMTENTWENI

PETER Browning, Cynthia Korb and Tony Aveyard won the Schooners Galley Restaurant in-house mixed trips, from Dennis Graham, Astrid Jackson and Ruth Findlay

The next club event is the 3rd Avenue mixed fours tomorrow morning (19th), followed by the Dennis and Jenny Graham sponsored women’s 2-4-2 next Thursday morning (23rd).

The bring and braai event held last Sunday was a huge success and this event will be held every alternate month in future. Members of other clubs are most welcome.

Derick Celliers and Daphne Hounsell won the JCee Sounds mixed pairs with a score of 4+12 from runners-up Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’Moore on 4+9. Jan Huygen and Kathleen Simpson took session with 2+11.

MARGATE BC

ATHOL Robertson, Dieter Scholz and Shane Nienaber on 4+ won the Halfway Toyota men’s trips last Friday, runners-up were Ian Hutton, Ron Canning and Kobus Faber on 4+5 and session went to Mark Smith, Johnny Johnson and David James on 2+7.

Another successful Pig’s Ear tournament was held last Sunday and Derek McKechnie won the 50/50 board. The very popular annual Doug Watson tournament takes place this weekend commencing with the draw for the initial round on Friday at 5.30 for 6pm.

The next sponsored tournaments are the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 tomorrow morning and the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 next Friday afternoon (26th). Contact Ian Hutton at 081 3166634 or Trixi Smith at 082 9409745.

There will be a fun day followed by a braai on September 24 in the form of a competition between Margate BC and Riverside at 10.30am and the next bingo evening is on October 6.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sharon Smith for winning the handicap singles. Olwen Gibbs, Hazel Williams and Bruce Coldwell won the Cupboard Value mixed trips on 4+18.

Sydney Ackerman, Dick Thompson and Jan van der Nest were runners-up on 4+7. Session prizes went to Tony and Ann Bailey with Mal Moni on 2+3 and Gordon Ogilvie and Doreen with Johan van der Westhuizen on 2+13.

Next sponsored competition is the Fruit and Veg 2-4-2 next Friday (26th). The club is hosting the ‘Pony Twilight’ bowls tomorrow (19th) at 3pm, followed by a bring and braai from 5:30pm. Everyone is asked to bring a R5 coin.

Riverside has been invited to a social challenge by Margate Bowling Club next Wednesday (24th).

THE interclub women’s trips between Southport, The Bell, Hibberdene and Umtentweni was won by The Bell.

The Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips was won by Peet van Rooyen, Geoff Barbour and Kevin Mullen. Tom Semple, Derick Celliers and Tom Leek were runners-up. Session went to Dennis Graham, Tony Korb and Johnny Meyer.

The men’s fours interclub competition is today (18th) and the Geochem mixed trips will be played this Sunday (21st).

MUNSTER’S green is closed but there will be two functions during off-season, namely a bring and braai with a salad to share, followed by horse racing on September 19, and the quiz evening and supper on October 3rd. WINNERS of the Banners Rest mixed trips played last Thursday were Chris Forward, Brian and Pam Cole-Cook, and runners-up were Maureen La Grange, Dave Hume and Ally Weir.

Second session went to Glen Allen, Andreas van der Linde and Amy Körner and 50/50 went to Mac McKenzie.

The next sponsored competitions are the Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips on September 25 and the JJ’s drawn mixed fours on September 27.

HIBISCUS Retirement Village’s men’s trips went to Graham Fisher, Kevin Tod and Doug Campbell, with Dave Garland, Clive Bignell and Winston van Greune as runners-up. Sessions went to Bill Latham, Norman Isherwood, Fred van Niekerk, Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Chris Abram and Barry Christie took 50/50.

Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips winners were Jo and Martiens Olivier and Bill Eccles, with Patrick Kirkbright, Louise Mann and Marie Momple as runners-up. Sessions went to Ina Malan, Lucas Barnard, Carl Volker, Barry Christie, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward. Denzil Massyn won 50/50.

The annual Munro Mackay in-house competition was won by Bill Latham, Nelia Reed, Trevor Smith and Louise Mann. Next competitions are the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 next Tuesday and the Hopdens Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Monday 29th, contact Aileen at 039 3125297.

Male players are still required for the sevens league and entries close on October 6. The AGM is next Thursday (25) at 3pm.
