MARGATE BC
MARK Watson, son of the late Doug Watson, major sponsor and guest of honour at the 12th Doug Watson Memorial Classic, was instrumental in initiating this tournament some 12 years ago. Mark presented the club with a plaque that had been posthumously presented to the Watson family to commemorate Doug’s induction into the South African Sport Hall of Fame.
Ken Tonge, Mike Jeffrey, Lenie Geyer and Sandy Jeffrey won the tournament and runners-up were Mike Davis, John Kepler, Sandy Davis and Phillipa Rowney. Tom Cawker, Bill Brown, Ellen Cawker and Annette Coomer took third place and fourth place went to Louw Vermeulen, Charmaine van Deventer, Maureen Muller and Wayne Muller.
Ellen Cawker and Vi Pells won the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on 4+22, runners-up were Esta Wenzel and Lenie Geyer on 4+16 and session went to Mal Moni and Gae Gravell on 2+12. Trixi Smith, David James and Rob Moni won the Fruit & Veg City vouchers. The next sponsored tournaments are the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 on September 26 and the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 on October 3. KINGFISHER Bowling Association can proudly and officially announce players selected for the 2014 Masters to be held at Riverside Sports Club on October 4 and 5. Men: Athol Robertson (MBC), Barry Delvin (BELL), Chris Forward (MBC), Eddie Fann (PSCC), Eric Grierson (UMT), Ken Tonge (MBC), Louw Vermeulen (BELL), Malcolm Baker (PSCC), Mark Smith (PSCC), Ron Weddell (RSC), Ross Ferguson (RSC) and Shane Nienaber (MBC).

If not already done, all KBA club secretaries must send in their completed KBA executive nomination forms to Carol Mc Mullin before September 30. Another reminder is that the KBA AGM will be held at MBC on October 6 at 9.30am and delegates are reminded to wear whites.

WINGNUTS Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 was won by Barry Christie and Louise Mann, with Gary Hess and Dawn Oehley as runners-up. Session went to Hugh and Irene Holland, Roy Robertson and Leza Harris and Shirley Barlow won 50/50.
Congratulations to Carl Volker and Aileen Ward for getting a ‘full house’. Winners of the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 were Lucas Barnard and Hans Herrmann, with Bill Parfitt and Fred van Niekerk as runners-up. Session prizes went to Barry Christie and Andrea Blignaut and Bruce Coldwells and Bill Eccles. Bill Reed won 50/50.
Norman Isherwood, Johan van Niekerk and Kathy Hall won the Hyundai mixed trips and Alan Tyers, Ken Habben and Kate Stewart were runners-up, with third place going to Lucas Barnard, Monica Middlewick and Mariel Gartelle.

THE Engel and Volkers men’s fours league experienced some very disappointing withdrawals from a couple of teams this month. However, organisers are confident that they can be replaced in the league by other teams. There was a keenly-contested match at the top of the ladder between Graham Gold’s team from Munster and Ken Tonge’s team from Margate, with Graham’s team coming through with a win of 18 points to 10.
Bill Brown’s team of Bill, Rassie Erasmus, Barry Herbert and Chris Abram won this month’s competition with a score of 23+8. Runners-up were Shane Nienaber, Trevor Heywood, Ian Hutton and Johnny Louch from Margate scoring 20+10. Third place went to Graham Gold, Albert van der Lith, Sergio Ruperto and Cliff Moakes on 18+3. Next month’s event is on October 17. Mike Jefferies won 50 /50. The men’s trips is on September 30.
The Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s trips was won by a new team from Port Edward comprising Sandy Davis, Trish Steyn and Pippa Rowney. Runners-up were Ellen Cawker, Vi Pells and Pam Cole-Cook on 4+30. Session prize went to Olwen Gibbs, Rae Barber, and Doreen van der Westhuizen. Mal Sheppard won 50/50. The women’s fours is on October 3. Duties: Gae Gravell, Di and Chris Abram.

LUKE Pohl and Johannie Theron won the Fruit & Veg mixed 2-4-2, Tickey and Denise Nel came second and session went to Barbara Fernihough and Abie Basson. The next competition is the Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips on September 26. The draw for the club women’s and men’s drawn fours will be on the board this week and the first round will be played on October 1. Please check the relevant board for upcoming events.

THE Southport, Margate, Hibberdene and Riverside men’s fours interclub competition was won by Riverside. Sheugnet Pretorius, Tom Leek and Martie Human won the Geochem mixed with John and Judy Hove and Bob Macfarlane as runners-up. Third place went to Ian Gordon, Tammy Gibbons and Arthur Lopes. The last tabs-in day will be September 27 after which the green will close for maintenance.

ANJIE Gold and Rina Fourie won the Banners Rest women’s pairs, runners-up were Trish Steyn and Phillipa Rowney and session was won by Val Smith and Penny Hood. 50/50 went to Jenny Rennie. Tyrone and Doreen Ferguson, with Frank Jardine and Elfriede Goosen took session with 2+17. The next club event is the Dennis and Jenny Graham women’s 2-4-2 today (25th), followed by the Harbour View SuperSpar in-house mixed 2-4-2 on October 3.

WINNERS of the Tiago’s men’s trips were Ian Hutton, Tony Simmonds and John Richards and Barry Christie, Hein Bester and Cas Benade were runners-up. First session went to Andre Blignaut, Hans Wijtman and Kevin Todd and second session to Neels Boshoff, Philip Lotter and Trebla Lansdell. Neels Boshoff took 50/50.
Thank you to Elaine Harrison who stepped in at the last minute as quizmaster in Beryl Lakin’s absence. The AGM is tomorrow (26th) after bowls at 5pm as is the Fazenda Restauranté 2-4-2. Hillcrest Bowling Club will be visiting on Saturday afternoon and the monthly bowls and braai is on Sunday at 11am. The greens will be closed throughout October for spring treatments.

RENNIE Geyer, Annette Coomer and Leza Harris won the Nomads outing on 10+7, second prize went to Bill Brown, Sharon Sheinberg and Merle Davis with 10+2, Lenie Geyer and Ria Botha took third prize on 8+19 and the sportsman prize went to Anne Bailey, Carrie Johnston and Ida du Randt. Nearest to the jack was Ian Hutton and Jean Bouverie took the whisky. The next outing will be at Margate Country Club on October 12. Welcome to new members Allan and Allison Dinning. Nomads wish Austin Knollys a speedy recovery.
