Dogs jump through hoops

THE Port Shepstone Borough Ground was a hive of activity when Hibiscus Kennel Club hosted its annual championship show last weekend.

A total of 107 dogs were entered in the two-day show. The weather played havoc on both days but Saturday was still enjoyable. On Sunday it rained to the point that the show had to be stopped.

Well done to Nicki Calvert, who continued to judge the grade three dogs in almost ankle deep water on Sunday.

Special mention was made of Gaby Frey and Scooby, who returned from Luxembourg recently with a new world ranking of 40.

She also took part in the SA Champs recently, achieving the triple champ once again. She also scooped seven first positions and a certificate. Gaby, with ‘KT’ took third place in the contact grade one last weekend.

Of the local members, Tracy Norton managed to take third place with her dog Badger in the contact grade two.

Billy-Anne Engelbrecht, with dog Gunner, took second place in the contact grade one and a third in dog jumping.

Agnes Gosnell, with Fonti, took third place in non-contact grade one. Jane Cruickshank and Mackie were placed first in dog jumping grade six.

Jenny Robertson and Jodie were ecstatic with their two qualifications in contact grade one which means they are now with grade two. They also managed a second place in contact grade one.

Sue McKay and Gita received a first and third position and were awarded with judges’ points with a championship certificate.

The club would like to thank judges Sandy Thompson, Barbara Egan, Nicki Calvert and Simon Brehany as well as Renate Haussman and Sue McKay for judging the carting.

Members are reminded that normal training resumes on Saturday.
