HARD work has paid off for three South Coast bodybuilders who have had encouraging results in two different competitions.
Jared Read (31) of Margate won gold in the class two division at the NABBA KwaZulu-Natal championships held at Sibaya Casino recently.
As a result of this, he will be competing in the NABBA SA champs in Pretoria this Saturday (October 4).
He will be joined by Vicky Segone of Gamalakhe who secured first place in the men’s class four division.
In the same event, Vanessa Cook (31) of Margate did well in the bikini under 1m 63cm division, where she placed fourth.
Last week, Jared won the heavyweight division at the IFBB SSN Team Universe show, also held at Sibiya Casino.
He narrowly edged out former SA champions, Mario van Biljon and Mdu Green.
He has been selected to represent South Africa in the United States of America next year.
Vanessa placed fifth in the bikini section, going up against some past SA champions.
Jared was ecstatic about his achievements.
“I have been training for the last 14 years, but for this competition I trained hard for 18 weeks, up to three hours a day,” he said.
He plans to take next year off, to spend more time with his girlfriend, son and family.
Vicky has been training for the last six years. He said the competition was tough, and admitted to panicking a bit knowing he was up against the likes of Terrence Pillay, who has competed internationally.
Vanessa said it was an excellent achievement for her, as it was her first time competing at this level.
