KBA

KINGFISHER Bowling Association’s president and executive would like to congratulate Maureen Muller and Eddie Fann for being selected for the Bowls SA Masters and Eddie for selection to the senior side for the International Quadrangular due to be played in Windhoek in November.

Members are reminded to get their club’s entries in for the sevens league and mixed fours before the closing dates of October 7 and 13 respectively.

All clubs are requested to send their diary requirements to Carol as soon as possible to avoid overprinting. The cost is R20 per diary. Final reminders for the Masters being played at Riverside this coming weekend and the AGM at the Margate Bowling Club on October 6 at 9.30am. Delegates to wear whites.

MBC

GOOD luck and good bowling to all those taking part in the KBA Masters this weekend. The inaugural MBC vs RSC challenge was a huge success with hosts MBC coming out on top. All those involved in making it a day of fun and camaraderie are to be thanked for their efforts. Everyone is looking forward to the return challenge day.

The next sponsored tournaments are the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 on October 3 and the Fruit & Veg open trips on October 10. Contact Ian Hutton at 081 3166634 or Trixi Smith at 082 9409745 or enter names on entry forms on the notice board. Visitors are welcome to enter teams.

The annual ‘Jacks and Jills’ will be held on October 18, the annual ‘Octoberfest’ on October 25 and ‘Toys for Joy’ on November 21. The next bingo evening will be October 6. Sunday morning bowls is played in mufti and everyone is welcome to come and join in a morning of fun. Bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome.

Coaching is available for anyone interested in taking up the game of bowls. The only requirement is that flat-soled shoes are worn. SOUTHBROOM

THE Criss Cross Security open trips was well-attended and winners Barry Payn, Trish Steyn and Rob Lyle are congratulated. Runners-up were Mal Sheppard, Elliot Nqoko and Julia Moorley, first session winners went to Neels Boshoff, May Gates and Cas Benade, and second session to Doug Campbell, Kevin Tod and Hilda Tod. Sean Larkins took 50/50.

Deepest sympathy goes to quizmaster Beryl Lakin on the death of her husband Harry, a long time, hardworking member of the club for many years. The club’s greens are named after him and he was granted honorary life membership of the club for all his selfless work.

There will be a get-together at the club for a celebration of Harry’s life on October 8 at 6pm. The quizmaster for the next quiz on October 10 at 6pm will be Elaine Harrison. Good luck to Heather Roberts who was chosen for the KBA Masters team that is playing at Riverside this coming weekend.

Members are reminded that although the greens are closed, the clubhouse will be open every Friday for a social get-together at 5pm.

PSCC

CONGRATULATIONS to Maureen Muller and Eddie Fann for being invited to play in the Bowls SA Masters to be held in February next year. The club is extremely proud of both bowlers.

Tabs in times from October 1 will be 9am for morning games and 2.30pm for afternoon games.

PORT EDWARD

MEMBERS are reminded that the KBA mixed fours take place from November 22 and entries need to be submitted to Leoni by October 10.

Members were spoiled with a tasty dinner at the prize-giving last Friday. Despite a power failure, a great evening was had by all. Congratulations to Sandy and Mike Davis who were once again in the prizes as their team was runner-up in the Scottburgh sevens.

INA and Corrie Malan won the Execudec mixed 2-4-2 and Rosemary Esterhuysen and Hein Bester were runners-up. Session prizes went to Alan Tyers, Denise Palframan and Nelia and Bill Reed. The 50/50 raffle went to Corrie Malan. Congratulations to Alan Tyers and Denise Palframan who achieved a ‘full-house’.

BANNERS REST

IRENE Filmer, Leonie Bloem and Willie Smith won the Port Edward SuperSpar mixed trips and runners-up were Sergio and Pat Ruperto with Val Smith. Second session went to Dave Hume, Jaye Russell and Ally Weir, with Ally also collecting the 50/50 board.

A well-supported JJ and Theba drawn mixed fours, played last Saturday was won by Maureen la Grange, Gae Gravell, Derek Wicks and Pat Ruperto. Runners-up were Graham Gold, Leoni Booth, John Keppler and Sariena Fouché, and third placed went to Kotie Snyman, Glen Allen, Pat Miller and Tony Smith. Anjie Gold took 50/50.

Entries are invited for the KBA mixed fours on November 22 to 24 and the club closing date for entries is October 9. The next sponsored competitions are the SaveRite Port Edward mixed pairs on October 3, the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on October 5 and the Warwick drawn mixed fours on October 9.

THE Shelly Beach SuperSpar mixed trips was won by Kobie Stander, Clive Edmundson and Bill Eccles with a score of 4+13. Runners-up on 4+7 were Mike Berry, Eileen Lloyd and Fred Deakin. Session winners were Gary Hess, Arthur Orr and Eula Greer with a score of 2+14. Bill Eccles also won the 50/50 draw. This competition will be played again on October 21.

The Hair Shoppe women’s fours is on October 3. Invitations for the Warwick Invitational fours on October 29 will be going out soon.

Sadly, an old member of the club, Leon de Jager, died recently. The committee and friends would like to extend condolences to Leon’s loved ones.

Congratulations to Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor for their invitation to take part in the Masters. Duties: Jill Brent, Marie-Claire Vernier and Bill Brown.

CONGRATULATIONS to Tina Barbour, Louw Vermeulen and Barry Devlin on being selected to play in the KBA Masters this coming weekend.

The Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ sponsored mixed trips played on September 26 was won by Gary le Brasse, Rita Dommett and Willy Knott. Runners-up were Doug Burls, Rick and Joey Roberson. Session prize went to Adele Reader, Colin Glazebrook and Val Boshoff. 50/50 went to Angela Moorhouse.

Tabs in are played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, and casual bowls on Sunday mornings and visitors are welcome. Members must check notice boards to stay up to date with club activities.

RIVERSIDE

THANKS go to MBC for the hospitality at last week’s social challenge where Riverside accepted defeat gracefully. A rematch will take place in October at Riverside.

Heather Flyng and Ray Visser won the Fruit & Veg 2-4-2 on 4+8 and runners-up were Gordon Ogilvy and Sharon Smith on 4+14. Session prizes were awarded to Dave Barber and Malcolm Taylor on 2+6 and Attie Ackerman and Adriana Peens on 2+17.

Good luck to Ross Ferguson and Ron Weddell for this weekend’s Masters. Joan Muir and Graham Scott are wished a speedy recovery. The Hopden’s Kwikspar open trips is on October 8.
