Surprise twist at business day
THE monthly business day at Margate Country Club last Friday, sponsored by Giorgio’s, was won on 105 points by Christo Esterhuizen, Jaco van der Wal, Johan Neethling and Heber de Beer.
There was a twist to the format, with three scores to count on holes 8,9,17 and 18.
In second place, on a countout, were Wonder Nxumalo, M Maritz, Deon Meyer and Thys le Roux.
Following close behind in third on 104 points were Frik van Zyl, Johan Erasmus, Marius Visser and D Dries.
In fourth spot on 103 points were Guy Yeadon, Arthur Ehlert, Bobby Wagner and Frank Carr, followed on 101 points by Dennis Rehbok, Don Osbourn, Neil Townsend and Roy Matkovitch.
Nearest the pins were Don Osbourn (4th) and Jim Finn (16th).
Saturday’s comp was won by Dave Morrison and Derek Egerton on 50 points, three ahead of Simon Shusha and Maureen Ogilvie. In third place were Brian Jolliffe and Robbie Myburgh on 46 points.
Thursday’s comp saw Graham Scowby fire a superb 43 points to edge out Brian Jolliffe, who had 42 points.
Flip Fourie was third on 39 points. Nearest the pin on the 16th, sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages, was Mick Merry.
The Wobblers competition last Wednesday was rained off.
There was no women’s comp last Tuesday due to spring treatment.

Mixed Classic for Southbroom

THE inaugural two day Southbroom Mixed Classic will be held this weekend. There are already about 80 entries but there are a few spaces for late entrants.Wednesday’s competition was rained out.
Last Saturday’s comp was won by Chris Miller, Olliver Ransome, Arthur Lee and Gordon Moody on 94 points, with Roel Germs, Art Germs, George Haswell and Kevin Haswell on 92 points.
In third place were Malcolm Moorley, Tony Holness, Malcolm Greenland and Colin McKay on 91 points.
The women’s comp saw first place taken by Allyson Thomas, Margi Bonini, Heleen Hissey and Margaret Sherratt on 83 points.
They were followed by Candida Amm, Bess Germs, Jeanne Powell and pivot on 80 points.

DAVE Mee cleaned up at Port Shepstone Country Club’s Auto Exec monthly mug last Saturday.
He carded nett 65 to take the overall honours.
Phil Myburgh, the smooth swinging lefty, won the A division on nett 66 after returning a gross of 74.
The B division was won by Louis Klopper on nett 65 and the C division by Johann du Plessis on nett 68,
Abel Yeeranna won the Stableford comp on 39 points.
The women’s comp last Thursday was won by Yzelle Greyling on nett 74 (silver).
Beryl Olden, on nett 69, won the bronze division on a countout from Jenny Hulley.
First through the field was Jenny Hulley, second was Cecelia Verster on nett 70.
The previous Wednesday’s comp was rained out.
The monthly business day takes place tomorrow (Friday, October 10), with the Umbango River Conservancy Golf Day this Saturday
